Default Wacked Out Ground or Bad Computer?

Hey all,

I have been trying to resolve an issue with my 1992 SC300 and was hoping to get some advice:

The other day I started the car after putting an oversized rubber guest mat in the trunk and noticed the ABS light and Battery light came on and stayed on for longer than just to start up. Maybe about 2 minutes after driving, the lights went off.

Later that day, they came on again and the car started accelerating as though I were tapping the gas pedal regularly every 2 to 3 seconds. The engine would rev up to about 2000 rpms and then drop down to near 0 and back up again. I also lost Power Steering. I immediately pulled over and checked the engine--nothing out of the ordinary.

When I tried to start the car a couple of days ago, the battery was nearly dead. It started up, but then the revving started, so I shut it off.

Today when I tried to get the diagnostic code from it by shorting the connectors in the diag interface and counting the engine light flashes, the battery was really bad. So I jumped her with my truck and the car started up, but didn't rev. I disconnected the truck and drove it a few blocks and though the revving didn't start, the lights went out on the dash and the power steering failed again.

I guess I have a bad ground, but I was hoping someone could give me some insight. Could the computer be bad? I just had it replaced against my will and without my permission by a local tech shop. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

jase

Iv seen something like this on a few Honda Pasports. A bad battery was the cause in both of them. According to the experts, when Honda's see the Voltage gets low, they start throwing a bunch of dash light on instead of just the battery warning light. This way you will do what you did and pull over and get it fixed. Check for voltage drops, and check your grounds.
