What do you think? (SC300 purchase)
How much would you pay for a 2000 Lexus SC300 with a Salvage title (TN) It needs a front bumper and 2 headlights and from what I can tell, thats it. It is black with black interior and it runs and drives.
(starting auction price 2,000)
The second option is a 1999 Lexus SC300 with flood damage. I dont have much information on it other than it was in a flood. I dont know if it runs or drives or what kind of fixes it needs. The plus is that it has 66,000 miles on it. Im sure its in need of a super duper cleaning job to get all stains and smells out but other than that, i cant see anything else. (starting auction price is 1,500)

Don't buy the flood damaged one. For all you know it could be an electrical nightmare for YEARS!
For the 2000, I would probably pay up to around 5k if the rest of the car is in good shape.

I'd go with the first. The flood car MIGHT be alright, just not sure how negatively flooding affects a car, etc., so I say try for the 2000. 2000 SC's are soo rare. There were only 905 made in 2000. I'm in TN, too, where do you go to or is it online? I'd like to find a deal on a cool car, hybrid or a motorcycle.

I agree with folks that flood damage..depending on extent would require extensive replacement of items and if that water got into the engine or an intake or soaked the electrical...your done!
WRT the salvage title if all you see is bumper and lights thats not enough to "salvage" a car especially a 2000. There might be hidden damage. Sounds like you need to do some homework and REALLY get into that car and look at it thoroughly...I think there might be more damage than whats visible. Pul the vin in carfax and start from there.

You should see part 2, when they placed the truck on top of a skyscrapper being demolished. So rediculous! Makes me wonder if the truck was placed in a crusher, would it break the crusher?

Don't get the Katrina flood car! The 1999 could have been flooded way back then and been sitting this whole time, hence the dust build up. If that thing was sitting under water for a long time, the problems could be extensive. On top of electrical, you will have rust problems too. 110k miles on the 2000 is nothing. That is only 13,750 miles per year. Just replace the front sheet metal and you will have a reliable car that will last you a long time. The flood damage car is a crap shoot and more than likely also has a salvage title. I forgot to mention you will need to gut the interior and put all new in. The mold can cause you serious health problems especially in the air conditioning sytem. You would need to dismantle the whole sytem and disinfect and clean it. Save all that money for mods on the 2000. If you go with the flooded one hear is a good place to start on what you need to do:http://www.popularmechanics.com/how_...e/1272386.html
