Default Outside temp sensor issue?

Hi,

The outside temperature my 1998 SC400 displays on the dash is going crazy. One minute it will read correctly, then it will switch to 20 degrees too hot, and then down to -22F. The AC/heating in the car seems to follow along switching from some AC to max A/C to max heat trying to compensate. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone know where the outside air temp sensor is located?

Those are usually located near the front bumper on most cars.

Thanks for the pointer. I found the sensor. It is located under the right side of the front grill. It looks like it is held on by a single pin. Replacement part is $70 or so.

Did each ('92 through '00) have this outside temp sensor? If not, what year did this sensor first appear?

I order mine from a place called RockAuto.com. The part is made by Airtek and shows same part for 1992-2000 sc300/400.

Perhaps your a/c unit is not working properly. Because suprisingly, the a/c unit is connected to the outside temp sensor. I replaced my a/c unit with a 92 and my car's a 93.. now it dooesn't show any temperature because 92 Soarer's didn't have the outside temperature display.
