I voted 98 cus you could make your money back if you fix it and sell it.
92 If you have turbo plans, but if you wanna stay NA the 98 is an excellent choice.

rear quarter damage on an SC is ridonculous mojority of the time.
I bet its really bad if he dropped the price on a 97+ mint black interior SC down to 4500.

i would take the 92 any day of the week, plus its a 5 speed.
mileage is not a factor on these cars really. swap/rebuild the engine.
change the suspension out/bushings (which all of do anyways eventually even if its ok to start with).
and as for the interior im pretty sure if you cruise the classifieds on here you can rebuild an entire tan interior from scratch for pretty cheap, and most of the vendors have interior parts just chillin there.

In all honesty, i would stay away from both cars. 98 SC with 1/4 panel damage on both sides is LOTS of time & labor. Just wait a while longer and I'm sure another SC will appear in your price range in much better shape. But if I had to choose one, I'd prefer the 92 5spd SC3. 300k mi wouldn't be of much concern if your swapping in a newer 1jz and tranny. Not to mention it's obd1 and 5spd. I would look to spend about 2k on that 92sc. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your project!

If rear qtr damage is serious (if it can't just be popped out) walk away quickly. That repair is hard/costly and will look like crap unless it is PERFECTLY done$$$$, bad spot to be hit in an SC! I would consider the 5 spd but get it down in the 1,000-$1500 range (give or take a few hundred) based on condition, then be REALISTIC about TRUE cost of rebuild to your desired specs.Just because someone is asking a certain amount has NO real bearing on what they may take when you have cash in your hand ( and when their house note is due at 5pm!) Always just pay what YOU want it for, or put another way, What IT is worth to YOU! Or just keep looking for something better, they're out there...crap/old cars.....bargain with them big time, and do it with a big grin on your face! Good jokes help alot too....

Thanks for the help guys i went with the 98 picked it up this weekend $4000k the interior is mint bearely any wrinkles on seats turns out it only needs one quarter(pass side) and one fender(driver side) and need pass side fog
motor is crazy quiet & drives like new. will post pics later.
