Question Gauges fuse keeps blowing

I did search and I have check the wires on my aftermarket headunit and the grounds in the center console. My issue is I have no problem when I put a new fuse in until I shift it to reverse. Its like when the reverse lights come on it overloads or grounds out the fuse.

I have had an issue with it for the past few years but it would only happen once every 6-8 months but now I can't get past reverse before it will blow.

Any help would be great. Thank!

Could be a combo of your brake lights, shift lock, and going into reverse.

There is a lot going on when you shift from park.

Alright I pulled the shifter bezel and unpluged the two connectors to the shifter and manually shifted the gears and it still popped the fuse. Where should I look?

I don't remember if the car will start in neutral or not, but if it will give that a shot and see if it'll go into drive without popping the fuse.

Well I turned the car on w/ it in Nuetral and then put a fuse in and it was fine till I shifted to Drive. I am sure it will do the same if I just go to Reverse, so where do I start to try and find this short.

What add ons do you have...Radar/Bluetooth anything hardlined into your fuse box?

When was the stereo installed?

put a fuse in, start the car, don't shift it..... just push the button down like you are going to shift it and see if it blows.

If it does the bar that sides down when you push the button is rubbing the OD wires for the switch in the side of the shifter.

If it doesn't blow doing that try releasing the button and attempting to move and wiggle the shifter while in park and see if it blows.

Pushed the release button on the shifter and everything was fine. Jiggled the handle and still no problem but as soon as you shift it blows.

As far as my stereo wiring I had the whole console out and jiggled the wires to make it ground out somewhere and it wouldn't that is why I ruled it out.

Alright, I am really frustrated now. I did the old hook a bulb up to the fuse that keeps blowing and unhook components until it stops flashing or slows down. Well I have unplugged every possible connection I can find under the center console, behind the headunit and to the amp in the back and it still flashes.

Anyone with some insight would be greatly appreciated. I HATE electrical problems!!!!!

Are you only putting your foot on the brake when you are shifting it? (and not at any other time) If so does putting your foot on the brake make it blow?

I asked because the shifter is a manual item that doesn't have electronic properties if the connections to it are unplugged, the only electrical item in question is your brake pedal being used.

I suspected the brake switch also but I have it unplugged right now and the light is still blinking.

I didn't say brake switch.

When you put your foot on the brake (only), do you blow a fuse.

Pressing the brake does not cause the fuse to blow. I am at a total loss. Everything is unplugged and still no success. I know unplugging components doesnt mean there isn't a bare wire hiding somewhere. I just wish there were a way to narrow it down.

We are narrowing it down.

As odd as this may sound, remove the cluster from the car, leave everything else plugged in as it is supposed to be. Try again. There's a circuit on the cluster that can cause this. It is directly linked to the shifter position.
