I've been thinking of getting an older SC300/400, prob automatic transmission, but have never had the chance to drive one yet.
Which model/engine is better? is the Inline Six more reliable?
I looked at the 0-60 times and the V8 seems only a tiny bit faster. I would have thought the bigger engine would be a much bigger improvement. How much performance gain do you get with the V8?
Also, not to rain on anyone's parade, but right now I'm driving an Infiniti J30t and it gets about 19 in city, 24 on highway.
What kind of *actual* MPG do you get with the SC300 & 400? Do you take a bit hit with the V8?

Let's see here....you will only be able to get the SC400 in an auto transmission...both engines are excellent engines but there are tons more power options if you go with the SC300. The SC400 with its 1UZFE is almost bulletproof if whoever had the car before you took care of it. An SC300 with the manual transmission can give the SC400 a run for its money any day in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. The V8 is great for top end performance, but it has its limits. Highway runs are where the SC4 shines.
In regards to mpg...my 94 can pull high twenties while extended highway driving at a constant speed. Im talking 27-29. In the city, it is a whole different story..more like 16mpg.

nice job pirate, probably one of the best short responses on the differences between the 300 and 400. I also was able to get hight twenties on extended freeway driving between LA and Oakland all the time. Luckily my first owner took immaculate care of the UZFE and you're right, IT IS BULLETPROOF!
