I bought blanks off ebay and the dealer cut them for free. I had to bring in the VIN and my registration for proof of ownership. Good luck, don't be too hard on the kid. Just make him pay for the key and the gas, that should be enough to put a little shame on him.

up the rent
make him cook his own food
when he wants food tell him to go to the shops and buy your own
"make it so tough on him for a week or 2
then sit him down and say now for that stunt for what it cost me we could not afford to feed you, because that is how much i had to fork out to fix what you have done. i could not imagine what it might have cost if you crashed the car!! killed someone or your friends."
that worked for my cousin and now has "RESPECT" for his parents which is missing from kids these day's

You're an inspiration. I don't want kids because I can at least admit that I am greedy and want everything I won for myself and nobody else. One of my best friends and his wife are both 28, don't have kids, own a new 4,000sq ft home, another nice rental home. drive a new Range Rover HSE, Ford Lightning, a new Explorer, and a restored '69 BOSS 302.... Why can they afford all of this? ZERO offspring and I want that life as well Except with me '98 911 Turbo (silver).
Don't beat him too hard, man... Just buy him a VW and make him pay for the repairs (shivers)

Thanks to all who responded ... and had a laugh. I decided to run down to Lexus of Orlando and buy two (2) of their $35 "generic" keys (no electronics). The kid paid for one and I paid for the backup.
Hope they work ...

Did '93 keys ever have electronics in them?
If they're from the dealer, they will likely go that extra mile and actually stick them in the car to see if they work -- this shouldn't be a blind process. I don't imagine you would be standing there in person paying for keys that don't work.
I'll still recommend Sewell Lexus; they cut keys for me last fall!

The answer is yes. The key he lost had the electronics ... but only one button so all you got was power door locks.
BTW ... the keys work fine. I never thought in a million years that I would pay $35 for a new key ... such is the life of a Lexus owner.
