My SC400 was stolen ... then returned. Need some advice ...
My idiot son decided to steal (borrow) my '93 SC400 while I was in New York on vacation. The moron didn't think that I would notice that he had "borrowed" it. The car was filthy both inside and out, the odometer showed at least 200 more miles than it should have had ... and the tank (that I keep filled) was empty.
... and he LOST my only key! luckily I do have the aluminum emergency key that came with the car)
idiot ...
Now that you know how stupid my son is I have to replace my key. My local dealership wants $35 for a plain Jane (no logo) key and $70 for a Lexus (no electronics) one ... which is plain thievery.
Please recommend a source for replacement keys that is good, reliable and for my son's benefit CHEAP.
Never have children ...
thanks ...

So the key blank is the cheap part, cutting it will cost more. I bought a set of blanks off ebay but the locksmith still charged $20 for cutting them each since they have to use a special machine.

yes beat it hard with a belt or stick, make sure he learn his lesson for sure...
Just ebay the key and go dealer to get it cut, they might ask for your registration making sure that you own that car. instead of thief.

For further family harmony may I suggest a key box, they are only like $20? I keep all my keys in there not only does it keep them all together but keeps "unauthorized" drivers (idiots) honest. Learned this when my "@#$%" EX-roomate borrowed (w/o permission) my Mercedes and proceeded to curb 2of the wheels.
Of course that means you have to lock the box too

If you only knew how much effort went into keeping him out of the house ... a key box would have done no godd.
I'm glad I've brightened up a number of your day ... I have to have the "talk" with my offspring this weekend. This should be fun ...
