i agree with the wideband af and egt as far as being safe goes..
boost gauge is definetly nice, as "lexforlife" stated a boost vacum gauge will let you know if you have any vacum leaks or anything which is always nice..

If you are running an auto, a trans temp gauge may be usefull ? Boost is a no brainer, i think AEM makes one that has an EBC built into it which is pretty cool to consolidate and save some space since there isnt many places to put stuff in an SC. After that wideband a/f and EGT would be next.

i disagree with your statement about wideband .. what if your injector locks up , jams sticks or something happens with timing , i dont know about you but me and my guys down here 2 guages we swear by is wideband and egt guage for they complement each other ..
when your hittng 20+psi on boost you want to make sure fuel is there even with a standalone .. i dont want to hear kabooom to know i had a slight fuel problem.. egt just lets me know timing is on point and fuel is there in case wideband malfunctions...boost guage just lets me know block is tight pulling good vac and no boost leaks i rarely look at it

btw 20psi is not that much. i have worked on some vw motors pushing 35-38psi. thats when blowing off hoses becomes an issue. if you have hoses blow off at 20psi you need either learn how to work on cars or rethink how you clamp hoses.

my 3 gauges...turbo or non turbo doesnt matter
1. oil pressure
2. oil temp...most people dont even know how important this one is
3. water temp...facotry gauge sucks
also you may consider egt but again...if you tune it right you dont need it.
you can get an HKS evc6 and call it a day. it will control and data log your boost. the best boost controller that i have ever had a chance to play with. its just insane. the greddy one is similar but still doesnt compare.
then EGT, boost
and i say **** electronic boost controllers, manual do just fine and dont creep at all.

8. if auto tranny temp would be replacing 6th but if you have a manual trans then this would be a damn waste

Forget three, knowledge is power. I want one of those dashes that you know EVERYTHING that is going on. No need in limiting yourself.
IMO the best way to do it is to run a touch screen in the place of the dash, hook it to a laptop or Mac mini, and run a system diagnostics program with a graphical interface. That way you can just flick through the screens for each gauge.

boost and a/f are useless. if you get your car tuned right and you didnt slack on building your car then you shouldnt ever have problems with boost and A/F. they will always be what you set it at. get the wideband to tune the car and then rent it out to local people and get some cash back.
