Default thinking about trading my 89 Supra/2jz for a 93 SC400

I just got an offer from a guy in FL, he wants to trade me a 1993 SC400 and $2,000 cash for my 1989 Toyota Supra.

SC400 specs:

Auto, 1UZ-FE, Leather interior, 167,000 miles

my Supra specs:

5spd(R154), 2JZGTE(single turbo conversion) and all the nice performance parts to go with it, including greddy injectors and hks fuel rail. too much stuff to list.

I am trying to sell my Supra for $7,000 obo. His SC400 is worth about $4,000 in the condition it's in. I looked through some links here and found a company i can replace all the leather seats for about $700 and i can probably get a decent paint job for another $700 locally in Central GA. He said all the fluids have been replaced and his engine is in pristine condition. all the electronics work.

here are pics of his car

so , basically i'm asking you guys if you think i would be doing a good thing?
my supra still needs some work to get it running right, but when it is... she will be very powerful. i just don't want to get involved with another car i know nothing about and end up spending so much money keeping it running. although i'm doing the same thing with my supra, but i know it and it's a blast to drive with the top off. i will miss the targa top.

keep the Supra... or find cheaper SC and drop your 2JZ-GTE in. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a 2jz and drop it in for the 2g he's giving you.

I myself had a 7M powered MK3 making just over 540rwhp before giving it up about 3-4 years ago and heading over to domestic land with a Trans Am and then now back to the SC300. I'd think real hard about trading for the SC400.

You can pretty easily swap something else into the SC4 if you want to, but what would you want to do with it? Would this just be for daily driving or ocassional fun stuff? Or would you want something putting out some real power?

MK3's and SC's are a night and day difference. I should have bought one a long long time ago. The comfort and extra features that you get along with being something that can handle and make lots of power is a great and rare combo to have. I'd check that car out VERY carefully before comitting to selling your car for that though.

i don't want to put a 2jz in it. just clean it up and make it a really nice car to drive around instead of my truck. all i'm going to do with the money i'm getting from him is replace the leather and whatever else is nasty and worn out.

I wouldn't do it. You could find a way nicer SC for a straight trade probably.

The SC's a nice car but i would try to hold out a bit longer till i found a cleaner SC to trade for. A few things 2 look for when shopping for an SC4. Check the lower control arm bushings (those things are almost always shot on high mileage SC's and are very expensive to replace). Find out when the timing belt was last changed (SC4's timing belts are a pain to replace along with the starter compared to the SC3) Check for LCD bleed on the climate control (another pain to fix) and condensation in the headlights. Hope this helps, good luck with your trade

thanks guys, i figured this forum would be be best to ask... not my forum. i will keep my supra and either try to get my asking price or continue to work on it.

so again, thanks for the advice and best of luck to you all with any projects you got going on. if any of you need help with 2jz's or what's needed to get them going in anything other than a supra.. come over to Supramania. i'm sure we won't be 100% able to help with problems, but we got a lot of people that know supra engines.
