i have no idea...im finding the right stain for it as we speak, so if i decide to make these for u guys (if anyone would want one, send a pm.) ill have the right stain.

it threads perfect in the wood it is in so far and it goes in wicked tight. im not too worried about it dethreading and slipping. if it does dethread itself, ill probably get a helicoil. do u guys know the thread type and diameter of the sc shifter?

thought id give u guys a small update. this is the hole in which it has threads, but since my cam sucks i cant get a good pic of it.


like i said before, it threads up perfectly to the sifter. it just needs proper staining, which is hard to find. anyone actually know what type of wood is used in the sc? ive heard its cherry wood, ive heard other things too.

 

I can't see the pics due to limitations at my job, so I'm not sure if you're done shaping it. But maybe a plane and/or blade can help you. Check out some of those DIY shows on TV about wood working or something etc.

its done being shaped. whats left is to stain and then clear coat it!!!


ive figured out a way to thread it if theres probelms. i am going to find a nut that has the same thread pattern, loctite it to the bottom of my shifter, then i am going to screw it on right. that way the shift boot will have a round surface in which it can be gripped onto so theres no hole between the shft boot and shift ****!

its taking shape pretty well!

 

i think its better to diy..gives your car a more unique touch and adds something no one else has..i applaud you! good job!

Looks like Poplar at least thats what the greenish tint on the knot would indicate. Its a softer wood but stains up pretty nice. Suggestion - I would start with a lighter stain cuz you can always go darker since (or use a test piece to get the right shade of course) I dont remember the absorbtion properties of Poplar but since its less dense than Maple or Oak it tends to soak up thinks faster and deeper than those woods.

a lil update

first off, its not poplar, the green im saying is like lime green. its paint overspray. but thanks though!

i just finished staining it, its completely dry, but i dove right into polyurethaning it. i just finished. so i gotta wait till it drys.

btw guys, i listened to the mahogany stain request...idk it seems a bit dark. does anyone have a close up pic of the wood grain?

if this does not come out the way i had planned it to, i have another shift **** that i sanded down. then i will try the maple stain to see if that will work. once i get the right stain, i can make u guys some!

 

Hey bro, I don't know what type of Mahogany you used. This is what mine came out looking like on a table I built in highschool:

I don't think its too dark compared to the stock color?

 

i used a red mahogany stain. idk if its different from regular mahogany...

does your table match to the stock trim by any chance? nice table btw.

 

I'll take a look tomorrow and see the color of the wood trim, and then I'll let ya know .
