Default what is this sound?

My car makes this sound that I can't seem to figure out the cause of. Its coming from under the car. Its between a ping and a dong. Sort of like shooting bb's at a coffee can. I dont think its coming from the engine cuz it happens when im stopped at a light and even when i turn off the car and im walking away. the car has always had this sound. i just want to know wat it is.
by the way, it seems worse on cold days.

That's the catalytic convertor making noise as it cools down. This is a common sound, don't worry about it. If it's annoying you can reduce it with a better aftermaket cat like I did.

There was a huge thread on this started by the IKON a few months back. Pretty thorough if you can find.

The sound is very annoying. It almost seems as though something is wrong with the vehicle.

Mad Max, will replacing the cat converters make the sound go away, or is it the pipes?
