Default Valet seat problem

When I lift the seatback lock release lever or press the release pedal on the passenger seat, the seatback inclines and the seat automatically slides forward. Once I push the seatback to its original position, the seat does not slide backwards (into the position it originally was before the release lever/pedal was pulled/pushed). The valet seat on my neighbor's Indigo SC400, also a '95, slides forward and backwards. The owner's manual also states the seatback "will then automatically slide rearward" ('95 SC Owner's Manual 52). What gives?

mine is a 93, and it does the same thing, it's hit and miss. sometimes it goes back and other times it doesn't. is there a sensor back there so it detects if something/someone is back there? something on your floor maybe?

Mine is also the same way. As andrew said, its hit or miss. Sometimes it goes back fully, sometimes it doesnt. I find that sometimes that has SAVED a few of my friends legs that were in the backseat, as the seats DO NOT discriminate, and will crush legs.

93' Sc400 and just make sure you push the seatback upright firmly, a good solid push you could say.

Same thing here. My 93 SC400 passenger seat will sometimes go all the way back where it was and other times only slide an inch or so (if at all)

mine does the same but there are simple solutions:

1. who cares and live with it...i do
2. get bucket seat that are manual and never worry about the power feature nonsense
3. sell the car ....its obviously broken

its not a big deal. i dont have people in my car much, especially in the back, so it doesnt bother me.

This is the forums; we are allowed to ask questions and get some help. Unlike you, I'm not anti-social, thus I wouldn't mind having the valet seat fully functioning.

Thanks to those who have actually contributed to this thread. The only difference with mine is that it's not a 'hit-and-miss' situation, it NEVER retracts at all.

Same deal happening with me but I noticed if I give it a good solid push then it works fine. Are you sure that slamming it back won't do it?

Very sure, I and other people have been slamming it back and it refuses to retract. It's rather annoying when I look over and see my passenger with their knees touching the dashboard.

I'm going to vaccuum underneath the seat and see if it does any good.

you can and did ask question and you got responses. anti-social? please give me a break. i dont have people in car because when im away at school the car usually sits because i dont need to drive around campus. before you start making assumptions and acting like a smart *** consider whether your comment hold any weight.

you want a technical and positive response? do the following...

take out the seat and take off the trim around the seat that holds all the buttons. first step would be to remove the seat control switch and clean it out. even though it is working it gets discustingly dirty and the connections car be faultered. after that you can look at the seat mechanism and locate the switch that is next to the seat back which gets activated every time you put the back into its original position. make sure that the wire harness is not pinched. it is possible because space is tight. next thing to look into is the seat control module. it is a common problem with our cars and it could be a culprit.

if you actually know how to use any hand tools and the search button on this forum it will be a very easy procedure. all the pictures and instructions on seat removal can be found here.

rethink your attitude sir...
