found a flawless 97 SC400...should i wait for a 98+

^ I didn't think there were any drivetrain changes from 98-2k. What changes?

My bad, i meant to say get the 98-00 instead of the 97. 97 still had 4spd auto.

so the 98-00' sc300's have the vvti 2jzge that has 290 hp?

No, the 98+SC400 VVTi has 290hp. The SC300 VVTi has 225hp. My butt dyno can certainly feel the difference .

haha i knew something was so odd i had to post a confirmation question. thanks though

edit: actually i got to excited and misread sc400 for sc300 lol sorry about that

i could see you waiting for a 99+ but the difference between the 97 and 98 are negligeble

So the addition of VVTi and a 5 speed trans are negligeable? That's the biggest change the SC400 ever got in it's production.
