(CANCELED) Replacement clear or colored headlight Lens (CANCELED)
#349
Here's a picture of the test lens Bryan brought over. Keep in mind it hasn't been glued it, was trimmed with metal sheers, and is a VERY ROUGH PROTOTYPE. We haxor'd it out of the sprue just to see what it looked like. The bucket is beatup from our original way of removing the headlight lens till we found a better way. We used it as a example of what not to do for the (included) DIY instructional CD of how to install your headlight lens. One thing i'd like to point out is since the headlight lens curved into the black housing, it looks much more aggressive and badass then the OEM lenses which have a little plastic ridge that covers that. So that was a unexpected bonus!
This is a few pics from us familiarizing ourselves with the machine. Main goal was to test fit and shape. Which was fantastic. Keep in mind these were HACKED out of the plastic sprue which we cut way too short, are in our bad bucket, and haven't been glued. This would be look showing you a award winning hotrod before ANY of the bodywork got done. The bucket got warped as **** so don't use it as a guide to fit. These pics are more like "yes we are seriously making these" so you don't think we are leading you on.
Here's the story on this one: A friend of ours stopped by to check progress. He says "man you guys should make some headlights for my car I can't see ANYTHING at night." So we made him a temp mold (the kind that doesn't cost $800 a side and is only good for 1 pull (if you are lucky) and although the mold cracked it still cast a decent headlight after some heatgunage. So here's how it turned out:
What was most surprising was without the fluting it still cast an excellent light beam onto the ground. To which he said "was 1,000 times better then before." I guess I can't argue with those numbers
This is the bottom line.... The resin is curing as we speak over our molds. The vacuum pump and lines have been repaired. Because of our complete lack of funds for this project an debt to internet brands (the people who run the vendors on CL) WEDNESDAY these will be available either as promised or as our "bail out special". Judging by the latest stuff we put out it's looking like debris on the molds we were sent was the issue, and that everything is going to go as originally planned, albeit a little later then thought. Check back on this thread on WEDNESDAY for ordering information, we'll be sending a PM to everyone on the list as well so they get first shot at these.
