Default sunroof delete ques.

I was wanting to know if anyone in the club knows for sure if you remove the sunroof assembly ,if you would have to add extra bracing to the roof. I would think if there was a C.F. replacement panel made, that it could bolt to the existing sunroof bolt holes and would be like a brace. If I have a long term future with this car I want to do some light weight mods of items I dont use anyway.

There is no known mod made like that. What I can say is the car is a pig. There would be no point of loosing weight. I know that the M6 and new M3 have CF roofs but those are all sports cars made to handle and its the whole roof.

Also ther would be no structrual benifit. The car is already a hard top.

I hear what your saying, I still think a guy skilled in C.F. could use the dimensions of the sunroof glass and make a panel that would utilize the mounting bolts and make it a bolt in piece. then you got to find a custom headliner guy to make a new headliner, cause I know Lexus wants around $400.00.

Approx. 45lbs. has been the concensus. Also the fact of the weight drop from the top of the car is a good area to lose it.

It's really not worth getting rid of. If you're that concerned about having no moon roof then I would consider just waiting for one to come around without, otherwise it would cost WAY too much or look really bad.

Why not just fibeglass the hole? I mean we can leave the sunroof on the car ,tape it ,gell it and fiberglass the top. Then take off the sunroof and glass everything on the otherside to hold it well.I might just go that route next summer.

i would think 45 lbs from a car that weighs over 3400 pounds wont make a difference really....

Man, you guys want to get rid of your sunroof?????

I'd kill to have a sunroof.

the only ones i've ever found were white soarer's with sunroofs

If I could find a green one (or even a black one would be ok) with a sunroof at a sane price it would be heaven.

Don't get me wrong I love my soarer and all but I'd love it even more if it had a sunroof so much more.

Basically what he was saying, is you fiberglass it with the glass in, to make a mold. Then you remove the glass and fiberglass the the piece you made out of fiberglass, so you have a fiberglass version of the roof glass. Then you use that to fill the hole in the roof, and take the rest of the stuff out.

That would be a good idea. If you are planning to build a lighter weight track car that would work just like the CF hood, trunk, doors, etc.

Actualy i find the sunroof/moonroof useless. When ita a nice sunny day,you open up the sunroof and BAM the sun is frying your head.Theres no way around it.You cant tilt without opening the roof thing.

Now my mkIII supra was a different story, its not a moonroof so you can tilt it and still enjoy the shade.
