Default 1st Post Exhaust Question Pls Help

I have read everything this site has to offer and am impressed at the response turn-around. In terms of exhaust I have just one question. I love the look of the Blitz-Nur, Borla and RMM are respected companies, and the JIT Magic cat-back (sort of) is very appealing. My Honda Accord v6 that i modified to it's max had Greddy ME Exhaust and it sounded awesome. I just bought this SC a week ago and it has 20k miles, yes 20k. I want a muffler that is going to give me that true v8 sound. I want quiet, but i want Roar. Could members with different exhausts please defend their choices and describe the sound if they can? This is going to be my first mod and i want to do it right, Thanks

The RMM catback system isn't very loud, it's low and deep but very subtle. The MagnaFlow sound will be meaner sounding and Borla will be similar but more refined and deeper. Haven't heard a Blitz Nur yet. The diameter of your pipes makes a huge difference in the sound too. Mufflers alone won't have nearly as much perceiveable effect than a full catback system--both in sound and performance. Loud mufflers are just resonating chambers.

You will get no roar by simply taking off the OEM axel back twin mufflers and putting on any of the aftermarket types. I have the Blitz-NurSpecs on mine. You get a deeper, more mellow rumble, not a roar.

At speed the rumble goes away totally.

To get a roar, you would have to remove the two small resonators that are just before the rear axel. You can have a shop that does welding of stainless pull them and replace them with stainless pipe. I do believe you will get a louder tone. How much this tone resembles a roar is to be found out once you have done it. If the car is too loud with them removed you can then patch in two tiny glass packs that flow well which could mellow out the tone.

I don't know if appearance has any bearing on your decision, but my personal opinion is that the large barrel type muffler tips (RMM, Blitz) don't look good on the SC. It REALLY screws up the rear end fluidity. I had a Greddy on my Probe GT and it was nice on that type of car, but not an SC.

I would get the Borla and have a reputable muffler shop fabricate some custom cats. You then keep the clean look and also get the true V8 rumble.

You can get the Borla for $520 at Performance International on the web.

If you want beastly loudness, just remove the entire exhaust system and run a 2.5-inch straight pipe all the way back with only one pair of mufflers. It's cheap too so long as you know how to weld. Very much not smog legal though.
