How long can I possibly keep this dang car?

No I just happen to own a 58 year old car and drive it and maintain it daily. I believe I have a perspective on what a pain in the *** it is to find parts. It'll be worse with the sc since there are so many people demanding parts and less parts available on the used market.

I'm keeping my SC300 until it either I crash it or it just doesn't run any more.
I plan to get an SC430 in a year, and I think I'll keep both. I have an emotional attachment to the SC300 though, it's my first car so I think it'll be around in my life for a very, very long time.

I know, searching for parts can be a pain in the *** at times. But we can all agree that the internet has made it tons easier and (more enjoyable)than the old days. Plus the fact I live in Houston which has about a ga-billion cars along with tons of salvage yards, which is the part I like.

Thats a good question. I hear that they only produce parts for about 10 years from the production date of the SC. So basically we have until 2010 to get as much as we need before they stop. SCs are becoming rare even out at auctions and junk yards. Parts are becoming scarce.

Cars have no sentimental value to me. If my Soarer outlives its use, I will dump it. Its almost at that point. It may still be a good car, but that doesnt change the fact its almost 17 years old and of course has the wear that comes with it. If I loved the car, it'd be worth keeping it as an ongoing project. But I already have one of those. Having multiple ongoing projects on a limited budget and limited space hasnt done anyone any good.

we had this same discussion over on rx7club. We thought that as long as you loved the car you would always find away. Mazda has decided to quit producing rotors and housings. Which would leave us in a bind. Luckily racing beat stood up and took over. As long as the love is their.....u will find away.

WHen I had my SC, I only bought new replacement parts.
In hindsight I think that was a mistake on some things but absolutely desirable for others. I could have bought used brake calipers instead of buying them for $1600 new. They either work they way they should or they don't, used didn't really matter.
I don't regret buying new headlight and fogs cause used ones look as bad as the ones you have...or will be soon.
Bottom line, keep those SC's and do whatever you have to to keep them running. I miss mine more than I knew I would.
