I can't believe the painter has had this car that I bought my father almost a year. Please don't ask it has been a living nightmare. The car was repainted twice in Toyota black and both times there was hallowing. They call it chemical pop. The painter was so disgusted and frustrated that my dad's car has just been sitting stored in his garage for months. He tried to talk me into repainting it a third time in SINGLE STAGE paint. I of course said hell no. So I decided what the hell--Paint it 1998 Toyota Quicksilver, that way I will definitely know that every square inch of this car has been repainted properly. If you are wondering--YES he has had to chemical strip and sand this car down to bare metal. There were WAY too many coats of BLACK on the car to have it repainted a third time. I always wanted a 98 Quicksilver Supra. I have a Black on Black 98 Supra T.T. 6-spd targa and love it, but I still really like this shade of silver paint. My father has a 92 SC400 that I removed the lower chin spoiler and than had it custom modified to fit his 98 SC400. The lower part of the spoiler was coated with some sort of chip resistant coating to help preserve the paint. This bumper has yet to be wet sanded or buffed out.

Yes the Toyota Paint code is 202 and to be honest I am not sure if the car was baked from the factory with only a single stage paint job. All I know is that I paid for the top of the line PPG dual stage Global paint line and that is what I wanted. Especially after waiting this damn long for the car. I have to say his work was meticulous and I have previous postings earlier in the year showing the update on the black paint job. He even went as far as blocking and wet sanding the entire car to mirror shine but after leaving the car out in the sun here in Michigan in late January or February the car's entire paint job started to halo and llok like someone had sprayed tire shine or WD-40 on the paint. It just looked horrible. The only preventitive step recommended was chemical stripping the entire car. Which he was not to fond of especially afterall the custom front bumper work as well as debadging the back trunk lid and filling al of the oem holes. When using the chemical stripper it eats away at any body filler used on the car. To make a long story even longer, he sanded the car down agian and repainted it black a second time. Baked it between each step and followed the steps to a tee. After the entire car was painted and cleared we sat it outside in the sun again and the EXACT same chemical reaction took place again. So this third time he is finally listening and chemical stripping/sanding the entire car back down to bare metal. I am crossing my fingers. We tried a different Vendor the second time we ordered the PPG paint just if you guys were wondering if I got a hold of some old--BAD paint. Not the case!! Thanks for the positive comments on the front bumper mod. In the long run I think my DAD will like this color better as far as up keep goes. I hate black--and I own 3 Black cars. His second car is a Black 2003 BMW 540iA M-SPORT.

That's too bad about the paint. The Toyota 202 is a single stage paint, and IMO is one of the prettiest, deepest blacks there are. It shines up sooooo nice, and you can cut on it quite a bit since Lexus uses so many coats to keep it glossy for years. I'm not going to lie though, Quicksilver looks fantastic on the SC and yours is going to look great with all the little details you've added to it. Can't wait to see some pictures of it altogether.
