Default No voltage in license plate lights

I was trying to install an electroluminescent license plate frame and realized that my license plate frame lights are both dead. I tested the lights, and one was burned out, but replacing it didn't solve the problem. I don't get any voltage to the light sockets. My combination lights work fine, so I'm wondering if there's a separate fuse or connection for this possibly? Anyone ever been in there and know where this thing is hooked up? I may end up having to pull the bumper off and try to chase down the wiring.

Were the lights ever working? When you say combination lights what are you referring to? Did you test the sockets with a potentiometer/voltmeter? If there's no signal, then go down furher in the line and test again. Keep doing so till you isolate the dead spot. If it's a fuse, alledgedly there's a fuse box behind the driver kick panel that controls all the accessories. I have yet to find one there though.

My cornering lights had never worked from the date of delivery. I got fed up troubleshooting the wiring, bulbs, fuses, etc and today I just wired in my own relay that turns them on with the parking lights. Can anyone tell me how these cornering lights are supposed to activate??? I've never known.

Do you have any wires in the trunk that could've gotten unplugged?
The corner lights come on steady, with the turn signals,on the earlier models, and are driving lights on the later models.

probably an open in the wiring somewhere. get out diagrams and check for voltage or continuity from after the fuses to the source.. you should find it rather easily

Has the car ever been in an accident or had body work done on the rear?

Body shops can be notorious for forgetting to plug in electrics after reinstalling bumpers.

Take out the 3 screws and remove the light assembly. Make sure it's plugged in.

You mean this one!!

I can assure you it is there ( disregard the red arrow etc. as that refers to a previous question.

I will check my electrical book tonight when I get home and find out what powers the license plate bulbs.

Peace,
jonny

Hmmm....

It sounds like your sneeder pins have seized against the grondulator shafts, try using so blinker fluid to loosen them up and it should come right off.

And if that dosent work for you, Grab some grease from your muffler bearings and lube up the external thermisticle of the bulb. Be careful not to damage the sneeder pins as well .

Try this, Argon. It worked for me.

1. Stop by auto parts store, pick up a couple of #168 bulbs.

2. Mix a favorite beverage (dark rum and diet coke with lime worked for me).

3. Drink favorite beverage.

4. Go find your phillips head screwdriver (the good one, not the worn out one) and a flashlight may help.

5. Lie on back near rear plate and look up.

6. Remove 2 phillips head screws in each plate light lens.

7. Stick screwdriver into hole where screw was and push toward the center of the lens while pulling down (the lens has a rubber gasket behind it that will be stuck a little but not too bad even after all those years).

8. Pull the bulbs straight out from the sockets while noting orientation.

9. Replace bulbs.

10. Check for functionality.

11. Make sure the rubber gasket sits flat on the lens and reassemble.

12. Mix favorite beverage.

13. Begin drinking favorite beverage and mutter "fixed another one".
