Highbeam headlight Qs..
Hi all,
new forum member here! Recently bought a 97 SC400, with 90k mi. It runs great and is a total blast. Can't wait to drive it up to Fort Worth for the Christmas/New Year.
I have seen and read a couple of excellent headlight re-furb threads on this forum, but most seem to deal only with the main (lowbeam?) assembly.
My high beams ( the two center ones?) are nearly useless as well. Is there a specific procedure for making these brighter? I am currently using the Sylvania Silverstars.
Thanks in advance for any advice, and I'm realy enjouyng this forum.
Regards,
M.R.

Howdy Tex!
You're in Killeen, right? Just up the road!
Anyway, I think my highbeams are glass like you say, but my problem is the pathetic amount of light I'm getting out of them.
I haven't removed them yet, but they seem to be reasonably clean, with no condensation, and they don't have a "projector" lens to re-furb. So how do I get more illumination from them?
Gurus-HELP!

you're lucky to have the glass lens on the 97+ highbeam. If there is any type of condesation in the housing I would just take it apart and clean everything out including the projector lens. If there has been no condensation then just leave it alone. As for the brightness issue I would just get some HIDs. That will fix your problem.

I checked the high beams when removing the main pod, and they are indeed glass.
I performed the dis-assembly of the main pod (a pita!) on the passenger side and cleaned /polished the projector lens. We'll see if there is a difference tonight!
Who makes a good HID conversion? How much do they typically cost?
