Default Found a surprise :)

While working on the SC4, i found that the previous owner had installed a K40 undetectable radar detector. I found the front radar sensor, rear radar sensor, control **** under the dash, and led indicators in the cluster

I just looked up MSRP on it and in 05 it was listed for 1799.95. wow.

Anyone know how good these things are?

i was posting about my surprise radar detector and you posted about your cigarette lighter. Just confused about your random post.

Your post did not pertain to the subject at hand. Thats why i'm still considering your post random; because it had nothing to do with the thread i started. I found the radar detector, was excited about it, and then specifically asked if anyone knew if it was any good. You then replied with how surprised you were to find that your cigarette lighter lights up when you flick your headlights/parking lights on. Are you following what i'm saying? Or do you still consider your input to this thread to be appropriate?

On a side note, every single car i've owned has had the cigarette lighter light up/glow when i turned my headlights on. All the way back to an 89 ford ranger. Its a common option that isn't restricted to newer high end luxury vehicles.

To answer the OP's thread since no one else is, the K-40 is a pretty bad *** radar detector. It has been quite a while since I installed one but they are top of the line. From what you mentioned it sounds like you have the undetectable system. These are "undetectable" to police so you can (if you choose) use it in states like Virginia (detectors are illegal there) without getting caught. As well as the fact it has a hidden microphone (usually in an air vent) as well as flush mount led's that will illuminate on the gauge cluster so when they aren't lit they are very hard to see.

You didn't mention having the laser diffuser however, it originally comes as a unit integrated into a tag frame that blocks police from getting a reading via laser. It can be removed from the tag bracket but it's somewhat rare for people to do that due to the added install etc....Another cool thing about the K40 is that within the first year of purchase they will PAY IN FULL any speeding ticket you get with their unit. K-40 to Bel/Valentine is the same as Lexus to Honda.

Long story short, you have a bad *** radar detector (with the capability of doing laser with the diffuser) and they did indeed go for well over $1000. I believe the last one I installed on a C5 Vette was about $1200 without the laser diffuser. Enjoy your find!

He's right ^^

Gauge cluster lights up and it's pretty *****in.

I don't think I have it in the rear. Where exactly did you find it, OP?

Likely not. It was an option on the SC's.

I was begining to think so. I remember reading a couple other threads a few years back about other owners finding these state of the art detectors in their SC. I'd be willing to pick one up if someone was selling it in the classifieds.
