Default Wet sanding whole car...has anyone done it?

Has anyone personally wet sanded their SC300/400?
How deep is the factory clear coat? I have an 95 and wanted to do a real light wet sand to remove some fine scratches from the clearcoat and bring back a good shine and luster to the paint. Do you guys think a 95 in good condition still has enough clear coat left to do a light wet sand?

i would say you're better off using Menzerna cuts and Meguiars m105(i think is what its called) cuts/polishes..i'd only suggest wetsanding the whole car if its BAD

yes thank you guys for the information
but main question is the thickness of the current clear coat
would you guys that own saw a 95 or within a couple years
be confident enough in the thickness of the clear coat to do
a real light wet sand
paint is still good on the car but as with anyone they want to
bring out the best deep wet look as possible

Highly, highly suggest using a cutting polish rather than wetsanding....

Use Meguiar's ScratchX for the deep ones.

How bad is the paintwork? Pics?

I'd get accustomed to using orbital buffer with a fine swirl remover (if only minor scratching). My Soarer suffered from pretty nasty swirl marks but after a few passes of the buffer it came up pretty nice.

I'd highly suggest to try an orbital buffer first with some polishing compound followed by a nice wax.

There's a tool good body shops use to determine paint thickness, measures how much clear coat is on the paint. If it's OEM paint the clear coat would be uneven by now having weathered down over the years. The areas exposed to the sun directly like the hood, trunk will have to be checked for clear coat depth if you want to make sure you don't run into the paint while wetsanding.

I would not even wetsand the OEM paint. Most of the time, they're not thick enough even from the factory. It may look nice and dandy after you've finished it, but the UV will ruin your paint after a few years.

If you have swirls and slight scratches here and there, use a compound/polish before wetsanding. Always try to use the least aggressive method before jumping into wetsanding.

i've wet sanded the stock paint on my 93. At least on mine there was enough paint to wet sand. Although If the paint is in decent shape I would agree and use a good cutting compound and if that doesnt get you the desired results then go with the sanding. Most of my car is origional paint. The one fender and bumper are the only things that have been re-painted. It definately came out allot better after it was all done.

Its in good shape still but there are the scratches that i would like to minimize as much as possible
its not bad by any means but i judge very hard and would like my sc just to be better
all of my friends who have seen the car say its in really good shape for a 95
they didnt even think it was a 95

I'd recomend polishing compound and a mid speed polisher. If you are a rookie, then use 2 pads on the polisher ,so you dont burn the paint.
