VIN Number locations
Anyone know where i can find the vin numbers on a 97 SC300? Here's the story on why i need to find them. Brought the car off of a guy that was moving away, he said he would mail me the title after he unpacked. Well he never did, so i decided to do a carfax history report on the car. The VIN number on the door comes back as a 99 that is in calif. The VIN number on the dash i can't read because the windsheld has been changed and has sealer covering it up.
Is the VIN stored in the PCM? Is it on the frame somewhere?
Thanks

Where in TN? You got hosed.
No title, no buy car. Probably in possession of stolen property at the moment which = jail time regardless of how you obtained it.
C'mon.... no visible VIN's and the seller doesn't have the title?

I got a bill of sale with the vin number from the listed on it, but that vin seems to be off of another car. I also called the police to see what i could do and they told me to see i could find more numbers on the car so can run it. The number on the door comes back clean.

Toyotas are notorious for placing the VIN # on alot of panels.
check the Cowl panel, firewall, inner fenders, engine
If you purchased a stolen vehicle and it was confiscated by authorities contact your insurance company they will usually cover this type of loss

If anyone could help me with this i would really appreciate it. I might have to just part out a perfectly good sc300 to get my money back. Is the VIN number in the ECU?
Thanks

There is no VIN on the ECU. Check the engine bay on the firewall. There should be a VIN stamped back there. Your fenders should have a VIN running through them. Some Lexus/Toyotas have them printed on the side quarter panel glass. If you really want to get crazy, remove your dash to expose the VIN plate that is supposed to be visible from the windshield. I cant remember more areas off the top of my head but just search that car like you were looking for drugs.
