Default Horn Honks when I turn the wheel

I've searched through the forums and must be putting the wrong keywords in the search, or it isnt here.

But, i was wondering if anyone has had the problem of the horn honking when the steering wheel is turned. I had my soarer parked all winter and when i started it up and took it for the first drive of the season everytime i'd take a corner the horn would honk. It only honks at certain points in the turn. I've never taken my steering wheel off and i'm wondering if maybe the contact ring is messed up from sitting for a few months, or maybe it'll go away?

Thoughts?

I'm guessing there's a frayed wire in the clock spring. Take off the wheel and check the stuff out.

When my power steering was shot, when I would try pulling into a parking spot and crank the wheel really hard it would honk. I think it was just because I was turning the wheel really hard though.

trace the black wire coming from your plug ( steering column behind steering wheel). it should be attached to part of your spring/contact point (activated when you press the horn/grounded) that's a constant. so it it broke off, everytime you turn the wheel it touches somewhere on the hub, causing it to finish its circuit so - HONK. hah.

hope that made sense. good luck.

I bet that get's you a lot of attention haha. If you do take the steering wheel off, just make sure the clockspring is in the right position before you put the wheel back on. I forgot my first time and snapped the wire

I know how embarrassing that can be. I had a friend wire the horn relay in my 5 speed isuzu rodeo to the clutch switch as a joke, so it would honk everytime i'd press the clutch in. I ended up just unplugging the horn and never fixed the joke wiring, so you could barely hear the horn relay under the hood click each time i pressed the pedal. It was like that when I sold it, so I can imagine what the new owner thought when he hooked the horn up.. haha

i just disconnected my horn for now until i decide to take the wheel off to see what the problem is. just wondering if it had happened to anyone else before. it wasnt like that before i parked it. It also only honks when i'm turning the wheel about halfway through the rotation. and for it to continuously honk it has to be in a very precise spot. just toots the horn as i go through the rotations of the wheel.

i also havent been able to drive it since that first drive due to the foot and a half of snow that fell over the past 2 days.

if i take the steering wheel off is the srs light going to be stuck on? i'd obviously plan to disconnect the battery first.
