Angry Repair Manual

LexusSC400.com quoted me at $300 for the 2 volume's. I was hope'n to get a better price than that. Is this the usuall cost of a '92 sc300 repair manual?

Engine: 8cyl
Quantity: 1
Describe: Service manual 1,2, and 3 for 1995 SC400.
Price $140ea *3

Subtotal: $420.00
tax: 30.45
s&h: FREE SHIPPING SPECIAL

Total: $450.45
If you have any questions or concerns with the quote feel free to email me.

and I was expecting $140 for all 3 manuals... I guess it's eBay time...

Peter~

BTW, why don't people photocopy the manual and sell it to me? Say about $25 for each manual? By the way, my car is '95 SC400

$450 for a damn repair manual!?!! And I thought college texts were outrageous! Why not go to the public library and have them order you a manual? Then photocopy what you need. That's what my friend did when fixing his seat motors.

If you amortize the cost of the manuals over the repairs that you perform on the car yourself they more than pay for themselves.

The up-front investment is worth it if you're going to do your own work.

Sticker shock sucks, but paying people to do car repairs sucks more.

True, but does that justify $450 for a few hundred pages of text and diagrams? Law of supply and demand I guess.

I don't know what happen lately but I paid ~$90 for two volume by a mechanic friend who ordered it for me and ~$30 for the electrical manual frpm Carson Toyota. When I asked the dealer near my home in Feb-01, I was quote with $160 for two volume!
Another forum member ordered from SC400.com (I know that site/company has some issue now) the two volume with the electrical manual for ~$155 for his 94 SC400.

I can't understand why Carson Toyota wants soo much for the manual? Did the Yen went up in value?

I guess better get the cheapest price you got now before it go up again

Exactly. You charge what people will pay for it.

Lexus's aren't cheap as you well know...

the online manuals/ cd from alldata don't get into mechanical type repairs and believe me are nothing compared to the factory manuals ...I paid about 200.00 for like new 94 volumes which included vol 1,2 & 3 plus the electrical diagram and they are well worth the price especially if you are going to keep your car for a while.

Default PDF those manuals

Someone should scan the manuals into a PDF format and sell them. The DSM guys did it and its great! I bought one when I had my 1999 GSX. PDF allows u to do quick search and lookup! Check it out DSM CD manuals . I would do it but just dont have the time .
