Default Performance Factory NYC

Well, there's hope for those that want it, especially East Coasters. Spent awhile today with Perf. Factory, I asked them if I was gonna have to trade the SC4 in for an SC3 if I wanted the rwhp I was looking for, we came up with several options:

1- They told me they will have a turbo kit available at some point for the 1UZ-FE, but it will not be for 'street' cars, meaning it's not designed for the space limitations of the SC4 engine bay, they said a decent sized turbo just won't happen with the space restrictions that exist, so the kit is really for a tube-frame car. They said they'd be willing to fab something for me and get a turbo to work, but i'd have to cut up the hood, etc. We had an interesting little talk about Blast Racing, but as of now the 2JZ is still king, though Escort is coming fast, for those of you who follow the series. Vinny's car is set to eclipse Blast's rwhp figure no problem.

2- Swap out the 1UZ-FE out for a 2JZ-GTE, trans bolts right up, they have a TT motor in stock, obviously the mounts and harness will have to be changed out for SC3 units, the ECU would be a MKIV TT unit or the AEM pnp, base maps are coming soon, they confirm it'll be the way to go, but other problems would have to be dealt with, such as A/C lines, etc. They don't really recommend it unless I want to keep this particular car, which I kinda do. $12,000 ballpark

3- Sell SC4, buy SC3
a) 2JZ-GE turbo kit 300rwhp $6500 installed, this is with a very nice long-runner equal-length tubular manifold
b) 2JZ-GE turbo kit 450rwhp $12,000 installed
c) 2JZ-GTE swap, 7-8 full 10-hour days for labor, splice 127-wire SC3 harness into 126-wire GTE ECU $11,500 ($4000 labor plus $7500 hardware)

So, maybe I should just drive this thing for awhile, and when I tire of it, sell it and pick up an SC3, order the Toyomoto kit, install it myself, and be done with it. And no, I don't want to keep both SC's, just don't have any room for more cars. OK, I would love to, but the girlfriend is screaming for a ring, she'd go ape***** if I had two SC's. I told her come 2003 I would deal with that, so in 9 months, i've gotta come to a conclusion, wedding or serious hp, would you guys rather see me at the track or in a church, hehe. This 1UZ-FE feels so slow now it's killing me.

Thoughts?

What about a serious NOS setup in the 1UZ?

A good sportsman fogger set up will give you up to 300 additional ponies w/ a direct port wet system.

I plan on going this route, but keeping it at a controlable 100 ponies untill I can afford to get some engine work done to handel the additional power.

Unhappy Turbo is the way.....

No ifs no buts.....

Serious horsepower = SC300 turbo......

No one in the world supplies a 'kit' to either supercharge or turbocharge the Soarer/SC400 V8. It would have to be a custom job..... car off the road for months and an open wallet to pay for it...

For the V8, if you could get hold of the 5ltr stroker kit from C's in Japan and have the ECU modified by MiNes, with a modified exhaust and intake you could see 380+hp at the engine...... but the parts would cost around $10,000.......

I'll be happy at 300hp at the engine, my V8 is not destined to be a hipo machine

When I want more I'll buy a 2.5ltr Soarer Twin Turbo for around $8000........ and spend my hard earned where it can do the most good......

Keith, believe it or not, the stock internals will handle a bit hit. Todd Matsubura was running a jumbo annular discharge system on a stock 1UZ-FE in a '92 SC4, he ran low 12's on slicks, i'm pretty sure he had a standalone at that point, but otherwise there was no other work done that wasn't ignition or nitrous related. Todd also set up the system on Chris' car from lexussc400.com, it's a 150hp system, a Mustang kit actually, with the NOS inline booster pump, dialed in at 150hp, and he sprays at least once every day, and has no problems. You can definitely hit 12's with the bottle, converter, exhaust, ECU mods, etc, but i'm looking to go much faster unfortunately, so as 'S' Low Rider pointed out, much easier to start with a motor that has endless potential and a ton of aftermarket support.

Sammy, i've heard some things too, but the two guys that run alot of the shop, Mark and Frankie, are supposed to be straight-up guys, tell me what you've heard though, don't be shy. Besides, their stainless equal-length tubular manifold is very nice, and you get 3" dp, Deltagate, choice of BOV, Spearco sidemount IC w/ alum end tanks, Aeromotive FPR, etc. Toyomoto is the way to go i'm sure, Lance is a guru, but I need a shop that's local enough for me to stop in whenever I wanna tweak things. This is all academic for me until I find a second SC, but knowledge is power, ya know? If you need another East Coast shop, you can call Paisley, Henry is the guy you wanna talk to there. Where on LI are you?

Sup bro, I've heard some pretty bad stuff, (I don't know if any of it is true or not so don't quote me) but I heard that they *steal* cars after they modified them or that some of the guys that hang out there like the guys from DRT(Drag Racing Technologies) are not exactly the guys you want to show your car to b/c it might be gone the next morning...mostly stuff like that. I also heard one story about some guy getting his car tuned there and later he blew his engine. I heard Paisley is really expensive and I don't think that they make a turbo manifold for the NA Supra/SC3. Any other places around here that's worthy??
Oh, BTW I'm around Medford, I doubt you know where that is, no one ever heard of it.
Where are you from?

Regards,
Sam

Yes, i've heard of Medford, i'm in Lindenhurst. Same stuff about Vinny that i've heard, just wanted to see if you had anything new. Far as that goes, waddya want, this is New York! Change your lock cylinders and alarm afterwards, hehe. Paisley isn't cheap, and it's hard to get your car in, and your right, they don't make a manifold, too bad Lance won't sell his manifold separately, the Toyomoto log-style is nice, but there's also the above PF header, or the SP tubular header, the PHR cast steel manifold, or the FMAX cast manifold, not a favourite of members of this club.

Sam, you could also go to Turbo People, Hastings on Hudson. Job Spetter is a true East Coast guru.

How many people would be interested in a bolt on turbo kit for the SC4 you think?

Sam, I know Medford. Just north of you in port jeff. I have the same problem as you and lex luthor.......too far north of toyomoto.
Lex you suggested checking out Paisley's place, and I will soon. But my fear is experiencing first hand some of the problems with new york shops like loosing my car or parts of it. I'm so close to calling toyomoto that I can taste it. Right now I'm still up in the air about which manifold....I like the equal length tubular manifold for no real reason other than I like it.
I am going to have to act soon and choose a shop or do it myself. Not an easy choice but......I want BOOST!

Man, i've really been wantin' to open up a shop, that would solve all problems. Gadget, you're in Port Jeff, i'm in that area time to time, the three should meet up, one of you guys PM me and we'll check out our cars and develop the best plan for making hp. I'll tell you why you like those long-tube equal-length headers, they produce abundant low-end torque with a smooth transition into the higher end of the powerband. Ethan, many many ppl would be interested in an SC4 turbo kit, but I don't think it'll happen, as far as fitting in a unibody, but if you can do something i'll be the first bloke in line, what did you have in mind? I've been waiting a long time for 1UZ performance to come around, but i'm at the end of my rope and honestly don't even drive the car much at all, only put 4K miles on it since I bought it, it's so slow it makes me ill, and i'm so fed up i'm about to do something wild and just drop in a GN motor or something.

if you want boost and your farther north ...you can buy a toyomoto kit and have a local quality shop install it...that shop can cater to your needs and upgrade from there...or install toyomoto turbo kit upgrades...Jeff

If there are enough people interested I may buy an SC400 and develop a kit for it, but you would have to be patient as it would take a few months.

as far as blowers go

i took a look at Adam Butler's engine bay... he had an accident like he said before and somehow (i think its the fan shroud) he's got more room in front of the engine

there's plenty of room in his car for a blower; a rather large one too; i'd bet money I could make one since blowers are easy to work with on low boost
