Default The great debate! NA-T or 1jzget

So I have a 93sc and want to make it a turbo. So what to do, NA-T or a 1j???
The local shop has different ideas. The one guy says NA-T and the other 1j.
So I am stuck, this has come up before, but do you guys think? I leaning towards a 1j becuase the car and motor has 150k. Will the NA-t hold up to 500whp? Ill leave it up to guys so when something go's wrong I can blame you guys!.....JK... lol!

Well if motor has 150k might as well go with the swap unless your compression rates are really good. 500hp, are you auto or manual? If you have w58 it wont hold 500hp for long, so go with the swap r154>w58.

You can definitely get 500 to the wheels with an Na-t. Keep your nitrous shot low or don't run it at all on a 150k motor. The amount of $ you'll pay for a 1j swap will buy you a turbo setup that will bring you darn near 500 but if you go 1j at the end of the day all that $ got you is a stock JDM engine. Parts are harder to find and a bit more expensive too.

Dude save your time and go na-t, after paying for the motor and swap for the 1jz, then after getting bored of the 350hp max you spend an extra $1500 or so on going single, and after seeing that the 2jz-ge can hold 700hp and more(some guys are crazy) all you have to do is swap out the hg to a thicker hg to run more boost, upgrade fuel, like the fuel pump, injectors, and get a standalone and your set. Oh yea the R154 is hard to find but they are out there.

^+1 that's the way i look at it.
I bought a USDM GTE when i realise after spending about $4000 with the price of the engine i will not reach the power level im chasing 500whp, then i decided Fresh GE block and head and NA-T my friend take the GE to the next level.I am currently working on mine

Like this:

Except that you won't be needing to do a dizzy delete or a side drift to reach 500hp. 2 tt denso pumps- you can put them on the same hanger (don't listen to anyone who tells you you need a new hanger). You probably won't even need a 2 milly headgasket for it either. If you do go the na-t route and want to upgrade your hg pick up a cometic or a greddy from titan- I went cometic- but you may be able to get away without one for now. Run alphabet soup instead of an AEM (AVCR and AFC), upgrade your injectors, get a Uego, a 60-1, eibachs and KYB's. You miss a shift with a w58 (stock 5 speed) boom- tranny gone. If you do go that route get a Spec 6 puck. But note that if you aren't manual already and you want to go w58 you will need to pick up a pedal assembly and a 90 degree drill to pop the holes in the firewall. The r154 is a nice setup until 700hp then if you want to stick with it you need to buy Marlin Crawlers- good for up to 1250hp and still 5 sp. It'll cost you about $3k-$5k total if you get decent prices. Now how much would that 1j cost you? Add that amount and you still have to buy all the other **** to make it fast.

What in the world would Nitrous be neeed for?

All of this is all very trivial if you don't have a budget. I've seen people do 500 hp NA-T motors and 1JZ motors very cheaply. If you're shooting for 500, why would you rule out a 2JZ-GTE? All parts that you might be looking for can be found cheap and if you look hard enough. 1J's can be found for under $1500 and 2J's for around the same price. Now there is also the quality of parts. Do you buy an XS kit off ebay and run your "alphabet soup", or step up to something quality like a BootLogic kit and AEM so that things are a little more useful in the long run?

Look on ClubNA-T and SupraForums and do some research. It's honestly more of a personal opinion. You will only get honest anwsers from people that have done 2 or more swaps between these options to really understand which is better. But you also have to understand that each option does have pros and cons which people will point out to you.
