Default 3 spoke wheel question

Stupid Question: I have a 1992 Soarer GTL. I am interested in installing a more up to date, oem three spoke wheel. when I look for these on E-Bay,none of them appear to come with the airbag - deployed or not. I assume that's because they have either:

- been deployed in an accident already
- they can't be posted or couriered due to the explosive charge inside the airbag, so they're not even offered.

Am I right in this regard?

Is it possible to obtain a three spoke wheel with a deployed airbag, and install an airbag cover? http://www.hicksairbagcovers.com/

All I want is a more modern wheel with a functional hooter (or horn as I think you call it in the US)

You guys call it a hooter? Seriously? I think that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

there are airbags on ebay its just that they cost as much, if not more, than the steering wheel itself. also if you dont get an sc(soarer for you) steering wheel then the airbag wont work if you get in an accident. theres an exception for the rx300 steering wheel...i think

Sorry I was talking about nondeployed ones. They sell just the airbag covers themselves, but you can't mount it on the wheel without the bracket on the back.

OK to clarify, the car never came with a factory airbag, nor am I interested in trying to fit one. I want a 3 spoke wheel with a crash pad (the semi-triangular cushioned bit in the middle of the wheel). It should have a functioning horn (or hooter - to much amusement). IF I buy an airbag cover, can I install this on a wheel that does not have an airbag - deployed or not, or is there something else I need?

So wheel like this below plus an airbag cover = wheel with crash pad and working horn, yes or no?

You need a bracket to hold the cover as TheMole mentioned.. also be aware the hick's airbag cover is just a dummy airbag and says "Not an airbag" on the actual unit.

A bare airbag cover can't be mounted so it won't work. I'm not sure if the hicks covers are mountable, but I have a bare toyota one laying here and there is no way to mount it on the steering wheel. You need the metal frame in the back which is what holds it onto the steering wheel via 2 screws (1 on each side). This frame also pushes down to sound the horn (hooter).

In your case you have a couple of options though.

1) Find the steering wheel you want. Then find a matching blown airbag cover and swap over the metal frame to the matching bare cover.

2) Find the steering wheel you want and the matching airbag with it.

Not too familiar with non-airbag SC/Soarers, but both methods should work if you have a cruise control switch. You swap your stock cruise switch over to the new wheel. You ground it to a metal piece on the steering wheel. If you don't ground it, the horn (hooter) won't work. Next plug in the cruise switch to your clockspring.

Good luck!
