Default Supra TT in SC 300

Hey Gang,

Have anyone try to swap a 2JZ GTE into a earlier version of SC 300 1992 or so? How hard is it? Who have done it? Any feed back or leads will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just curious, but why not just turbo the 2JZ-GE?

...unless you melted it and want to put in a different engine...

So are you saying you blew the 2JZ-GE engine up and you want to put a 2JZ-GTE in, or????

what is the different between 2JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GE. I dont have SC i have a LS. I was just wondering if SC300 can be fitted with a Supra TT engine. I am not sure if it is GE or GTE. Please help.

Phil Auldridge has done it -- http://www.fly-hawaii.com/lexustt/details.htm

and SC300TT has also done the 2JZ-GTE conversion. It's more cost efective to throw a turbo on from Toyomoto, but you can get insane amounts of HP with the 2JZ-GTE -- it's got a few goodies like oil squirters. Either way -- If you got your heart set on twins, or just want power...

(I'll let the debate blow up now over this issue)

Good Luck

Lots of differences, but the most obvious is that the 2JZ-GTE has twin turbos, a lower compression ratio, and oil squirters.

The Supra TT engine is the 2JZ-GTE.

Bean... LOL hehehe ahhh... BTW, I found a 1996 SC 300 5sp, does the 96 have the bigger tranny tunnel, or just 95?

SC400 = all show, no go. (well just throw NOS on, and be a bottle baby!)

Another Question: Do sequential turbos sound cooler spooling up than single turbo engines? Just a question of personal preferance, and wondering what people think.

Yeah if I could do a straight SC400 for SC300 swap out, would it be worth it? I can probably do so and get money back or get a newer SC300 5-spd with lower miles. Did they change anything in the SC300 over the years besides asthetics? How much would it cost to make an SC300 5-speed a 12 second car? I know the blower for an SC400 is like $7000.

I really like this car, but it doesn't get up quick enough for me. The SC400 isn't really all show no go. You just have to know your boundaries. Like I'll never race off the line, but if a formidable car brushed by me on the freeway, I may give it a go. It is a faster car than most others on the road.

I don't think there's any additional cool factor from sequential twins vs. parallel twins vs. a single turbo.

They all pretty much sound similar. Just that turbo whine is phat as heck.

i've thought about the swap too. it really wouldnt matter to me which i did cept for the money part of course.

but i was wondering, the single turbos for the 2jzge. is it street legal? this is my only car and i'd like it to pass emmisions as well thats the only real reason im considering the 2jzgte swap.

im guessing turbo would be cheaper though, its all about street legality really, thnx

The turbos shouldn't cause you to fail emissions unless they're leaking as far as I know.

As to whether it's legal to turbo a car -- I can't see a reason why not. I'd check with your state DMV though.

If you search back thru the SC300/400 forums, you'll find 10,002 posts talking about swapping the supra's motor into the SC300, turboing the SC300's motor, pro's con's of each way, etc.

Turbo the motor thats already in the car, and for $7k you'll be running 12's.
