I'd give him your phone number and tell him to call you when he decides to lower it to $6000...if he does call then offer $5500 ...just be patient and keep looking...thats what I did for 3 months on a daily...finally found a Blk SC300 5sp with 102xxx miles talked him down to $3600+$415 to ship!!!!...patience wins in the end

There were exactly 120 manual SC300's made in 1997 (and 3883 manual SC300's total 1992-97).
Personally, I think $7000 is overpriced. You could say a 2000 Lexus SC400 is also very rare (only 324 were made), but you don't see them listing for 50% higher than their market rate. I looked it up and KBB rates the 5-spd 97' SC300 at $5375, and mind you KBB is usually much higher than real market rate. I paid $6500 for my SC400 when KBB rated it at almost $9000. For a rare car, I would say KBB is accurate.
If you're in love with the car (which is sounds like your not), pay $5500, no more than that. If your CRAZY for the car and its the one of your dreams, $6000. Yes the 5-spd SC300 is rare, but that doesn't make it a Supra. Personally 200k+ miles is something that would really drive me away from this, regardless of price. For $7000, you could pick up a (faster) clean SC400 with 1/3 the mileage.

the only difference a 97 SC300 has vs a 92 SC300 is cosmetics. So buy a 92 SC300 manual for $3500 and spend $1500 on 97+ tails, skirts, and a spoiler, done. You save yourself $2000.

white with grey interior....perfect condition till i slammed it and rolled the crap outta the fenders and dumped it!
if you really want the color.... paint it... its cheaper and it'll be perfect...
if you really want the 97+ look... buy the bumpers and paint it...
why pay the extra insurance.....
a 5 speed is a 5 speed as long as its in good condition... you going to fix it up anyway....

+1 on showing up with cash in hand.... talking about it and seeing $6000 waiting for you is mighty tempting....i got my 92 with 112,xxx miles for $4K... all dealer serviced....original owner.... 50+ year old couple in a rich neighborhood.....NO kids...driven by the wife mainly....lol

I can't imagine a cleaner '95 than the one I just got two weeks ago with a 5 spd and 114k for $5500. There is another 5 spd for sale up in Golden right now with 150k for $5500 (and I'm sure you could haggle a little).

For me personally, as much as I love the SC look, I was only going to buy one with a stick shift. Sure the 400 may have more horses, but there's a reason enthusiasts love to go with stick. It's just more fun to drive.
There are stick 300's floating around, you just have to do your homework. This price seems really steep for the miles. But if it's in excellent condition and the miles are the only issue, it might be worth it compared to a lesser priced more flawed vehicle that'll require more work.
I think anyone who gets this car in automatic is just wasting their time. It's not like the 300 is a rocket (same with the 400 really) but the stick makes the car so much more fun to drive.
If I were in your position, I'd just do my homework and stay on top of craigslist and cars.com and autotrader. Go to a CL search engine and cover cars.com and you'll be able to find one inside of a month probably. Be prepared for 30-40 minutes per day of searching though. But that's the fun part.

Ive been told on more than one occasion that I over payed for my car but I have yet to hear an argument that makes me regret my decision.
