Default 92 SC300, 95 Cluster, GTE Swap

***Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please move it as I wasn't sure if this fell under performance/maintenance or not.***

I have a 1992 SC300 with an Aristo Swap running on an Aristo ECU. I picked up a newer 1995 manual cluster from Aliga as he assured me (again via AIM) that 92-96 clusters are compatible. Well when using the 95 cluster with red needles I get NO rpm. On the 92 everything works fine.

I don't know if there was a mod done to the cluster in order for the tach to work on the 92 that I need to address on the 95 cluster? I've searched for cluster mods and I only come up with MSD Tach adapter threads and the resistor mods for RPMS being incorrect.

I have tried to break the needle free manually and it is NOT stuck.

You need either a MSD tach adapter or do the cluster mod. PM me if you want the tach adapter.

What is the cluster mod...or at least a link to the thread that explains it. Thanks!

Are you talking about jumping the R109?

By cluster mod, he means jumping the R109 resistor on 92-94 clusters, and the R73 resistor on 95-96 clusters.

BTW- My tach still doesn't work after jumping the R73 resistor, and also trying the MSD Tach Adapter.

The wiring has continuity..I dont know what is going on.

Pop the back off the 92 cluster, and check for the R109 resistor. Does it have a wiring soldered across it?

Never doubted that it wasn't broken....was just trying to figure out the compatibilities as I found the needles do not swap to the older cluster. For the record...that speedo motor on ur 130k cluster was LAZY...no surprise as it is super common.

What I found rather hilarious is my 1992 250k mile cluster motor worked 10X better...no big deal, swapped the motor over and now all is well. Thanks for all the parts bro!

Gonna be sending it out to OLT for some "upgrades" now.
