Factory sub location
the sub that is housed in the middle of the rear deck, I'm looking for ideas on better quality sound with firm bass, not looking to vibrate windows or set off alarms, but if not mistaken it's a 8inch sub, can a 10 inch fit in there and what have ya'll done to make it sound better, might upgrade the factory mp but not interested in building any box's. I have heard mixed thoughs on Kickers free air sub (any experience?)

I would try the Kicker free air brand or JL Audio. They both sound good, where small space is required. You will have to upgrade the amplifier. Keep in mind the factory subwoofer is 2 ohm, and its a small 10 inch. I personally like the JL Audio sound better, its more smooth and precise, compared to the punchy Kicker. Just my thoughts and experience. Also make sure you measure the depth of space required to clear the top of the gas tank. Maybe you can still use the same trim ring as the origianal one. If not, maybe you can make one out of MDF wood or even metal.

First, the stock sub is 10"
Second, The stock subwoofer enclosure is tiny, If you can make it bigger you might get really good sound with, say, a JL 10W3 and a 500/1 amp.
Third, you are going to need to modify the mounting location for the factory 10" sub if you want to put anything else back there. Try having a fiberglass box made to go in the drivers side of the trunk next to the antenna.
I simply put 2 boxes in the bottom of the trunk and it sounds great . I also mounted the Amps where the 12 disc CD changer goes. Perfect place for them imo. I'll take pics for y'all.

I think that would be a great idea, but you may just be happier with modifying the trim piece to fit the new sub. That may be too much bass for you with something in the trunk, plus it will take up more room. Theres only enough room for my golf clubs in there now!

JL10IB4 they discontinued the model so your gonna have to do some searching, no spacer was required to clear the gas tank. if you dont go with the JL I recommed the SQ10 I've only heard good things about both. with a little trimming I actually reused the OEM cover so everything remains stock looking but sounds great. my amp is also hidden from sight I set it up so that it hangs under the rear deck.

OP- Not a fan of free air subs, they don't do the job. I would rather upgrade the mids. Have you heard stock IS300's? I think they sound better then going the free air sub route.

lol... good question... is that where i made the mistake? lol i just dropped it in seeing as the sub would not for the life of it come out of that bracket and i did not want to break it(its for sale btw) so i just let it be. either way i measured and it seemed like the same size as the sub.

also as a side note.: op deoends on ur speaker and amp u will get a lot of bass or no base at all... u said u wanted a 10 but my 8" set up shakes the back window from how hard it basses. i had to turn down the amp because i wanted something a little more then factory nothing crazy. it sounds amazing and its not even free air. i used silicone in between the speaker and metal of the trunk so it doesnt rattle. sounds great.

I just pulled the factory sub out of my sc400, with nak. replaced the stereo and speakers a while back, and put in my 10" from my old daily last weekend.
comparing cone sizes by eyeball, my factory sub was 10.
the sealed box, and cheap alpine e-series sub sound much better than the factory FAS.
