i was thinking the same thing since they're like boats!!

weight reduction: I am going all out. here is a list of things i have either done or plan to do. pick which ones work for u.
ac: gone along with all the lines and condenser.
trunk: inside all lining gone, spare tire, cd changer
carpet: gone
back seat: gone
back panels: gone
rear speakers: gone
cruise control: gone
current weight: 3300 lbs(Nice! That's impressive to shed 300lbs!). (1jz, stock side mount, r154, stock brakes)
(Don't Forget Coilovers save some weight!)
future:
single pipe exhaust: i figure 20 lbs(full titanium single exit can save you 50lbs I think)
carbon hood trunk: i figure 40-50 lbs(Trunk:15lbs Saved Hood:35lbs Saved)
seats: they weigh a ton!! i figure 100lbs
battery: motorcycle. 10 lbs (don't spend the 100 on a braille battery its just a name)(nice idea, but will it have enough CCA's to start the car?)
sunroof remove: 70lbs ??(Actually its worth 35lbs)
steering wheel: 2-5 lbs(are you keeping the airbag? you might shed significant weight by removing both airbags)
supra brakes: +20 lbs(did you know: 1.that even though LS brakes aren't as widely supported by the aftermarket, the 4 calipers weigh 40lbs less than supra and SC calipers? 2. The SC Calipers weigh 2.5lbs more than a supras? Plus with LS400 brakes, you are reducing unsprung mass, which will really help with cornering)
heater core: 20 lbs
goal 3000 lbs even.
1.Aluminum Radiator(saves about 15lbs)
2.Vertex Fenders(fiberglass will save a little weight, figure 10-20lbs)
3.Supra 97+ Aluminum LCA's(700$+ but not only are they much lighter, again, they are unsprung mass. These LCA's will help with cornering much more.)
4.Lexan Windows(Because Glass is heavy)
5.Aluminum/CF Drive shaft (Less Rotational mass means less power to turn it and more to make you go forward!)
6.Lightweight Forged Rims: (again reduce that moving AND unsprung weight)

I don't know why people say that our cars are porkers. I came from Subaru's and stock STI's are in the upper 3400lb range. Not that much lighter than a stock 5 spd SC. I don't think it takes much to make these cars to handle well.

If you plan on seriously tracking, start with a better platform...
If you plan on tracking for fun, just get some good brakes and coilovers.

Removing the seats to save weight? Don't they weigh about the same as a wet pair of jeans or a 72oz Texan steak? I would rather keep them in and reduce weight with the front seats. They are heavy as sin.

No, no they're not. Drive a Lincoln Mark VIII and then tell me the SC is a boat. Far from it, the SC is a a fun car in the corners on the streets, if you have some good tires and your suspension is in good working order. Definitely too soft for full-on track abuse, but my stock-ish SC can make me smile on every on-ramp.
