Default Built 2JZGE

Hey Gang,

i have been doing some research about 2JZGTE and 2JZGE. The two blocks are basically the same. GTE have holes for oil and water. I talked to my mechanic and he stated that they are the same block, but the internals are different.

For those of you have SC300, you dont have to swap it to Supra TT engine (2JZGTE). You can easily rebuild your GE with forged internals (JE low compression pistions and so on) and tap two holes for oil and water and there, you will have a built 2JZGTE from 2JZGE. You will save a lot of money and you will have a stronge engine. With some heads work and HKS turbos, will be flying with highly modified supras. What do u think? would this work? Your inputs will be great appreciated. What about ECU? are they different?

Computer Whiz posted that the N/A Supra ECU will work, and I've read something about the turbo heads not working? I don't got a 2JZ-GE (YET!!! ) so I'm not 100%.

Thats what I need to do. I have 180,000 miles on my car and I want to turbo it. An engine rebuild is a MUST for me. Did he give you any idea of how much it would cost?

Healerhand:

This information was freely available here You didn't have to ask your mechanic

The TT head will physically work on the N/A block but it has some extra stuff in it which requires extra wiring. There is a cam position sensor and the head doesn't support a distributor ignition setup.

The bottom-end of the GE is nearly identical to that of the GTE except the pistons are not heat-treated and are of a higher compression (10.2:1 vs 8.5:1)

As for flying with modified supras, any of the bolton turbo kits made for the GE motor will be able to do that. The motor can still handle around 700-800rwhp with nitrous before needing stronger pistons. A stage 1.5 Toyomoto kit is enough to give a car around 550-575rwhp on race gas. And around 450rwhp on pump at the stock compression level.

Why not port the GE heads, and swap in a stock GTE shortblock ? I am under the impression that it's interchangable but I could be wrong.

It is, SC300TURBO has done it. He mentioned he had a couple other little mods on it; but it was possible.

But the point is, you still need a GE-head turbo kit

i have a GTE block but only because a pressure plate explosion on my 5spd trashed my block......and i picked up a GTE shortblock and 6spd at a great price......so i installed them both...but the GE block is plenty strong and can hold over 600rwhp with only the addition of a toyomoto thicker head gasket......so theres no need to buy a GTE short block.....with a head gasket and turbo kit from toyomoto you can accomplish anything you want......Jeff

What makes the compression different between the GE and GTE? Just the pistons? Are the combustion chambers (head) the same size?

Its just the pistons. If you have a GTE block and pistons, the compression ratio will be 8.5:1.

Bean, its funny how the Stage 1.5 numbers keep going up.
First its 423rwhp on pump gas, now were up to 450. What did I do? 575 at the wheels on race gas, wow!
