Hi,

I am looking for a first car, and am considering the SC300/400 along with the 240SX and FC3S RX7.
I have seen a bunch around where I live for about $3-4000.

Does the SC have decent aftermarket support? I would assume nowhere as near as much as the 240SX/RX7, but are parts somewhat easy to find?

Would the SC make a decent 1st car?

Forgive me for being a newb but...

1) The SC and MKIV Supra share the chassis, correct?
2) How expensive are 1JZ / 2JZ engine swaps?

It'd make a great first car, as long as you pick the right one in good condition.
I recommend finding a black interior SC.

There is a LARGE aftermarket for the SC- Everything for the Supra pretty much bolts in. Engines/Trans/Suspension/rear end/seats/etc. Quite a few kits are out there, all rims including Supra fitaments fit. There's a large trove of used parts as well, considering the SC lifespan was 1992-2000.

I would recommend against having an FC as a first car unless it's in immaculate condition.
Most 240's out there these days are 'molested', or the price is jacked up above what a good SC would cost. So, theres an opinion for you. Lots of potential.

A 2JZ or 1JZ swap costs alot. I would say that if you want to go fast, pick a car that can be turbo'd out of the box.

A NA-T is difficult to tune, a 1JZ is expensive(and not road legal), and a 2JZ is even more expensive.

I would pick a car that has a 9:1 CR max and wide after market support:Honda. They may not be pretty but a GSR or b16 turbo in a gutted hatch will spank a vette.

Of course, if your OK with about 350 fwhp then get a 97+ vvti SC400. BFI, manual swap, headers, and exhaust: be sure to wave at the 350Z as you pass it.

when QekSC said he meant 98+ because they upgraded the engine in 98.

I think it would make a great first car. They're inexpensive, built like tanks, and you'll have one of the nicer cars among your friends.

yes because they are relatively inexpensive, they are a lexus, they look nice, and most *caughtoyotacaugh* parts arent too expensive.

no because the gas mileage isnt good and no because since its your first car you will hit something.

Also remember the sc just like any used car can become a money pit, at our cars age and mileage, maintenance is more important then the brand.

The SC is a good car because it's cheap to maintain, looks great, and will run forever. These cars are built like tanks. So what your saying Ryeno, he shouldn't have an SC because you think he will hit something, but doesn't that mean he has the same chances of hitting something in a newer, nicer car?

what i am saying is since its your first car, you will lack experience thus the chances you get into an accident thats not reparible is increased. Basically you wont really care if you total a accord, but you will be sad if your sc is off the road.

As for built like a tank and will run forever, no car falls into that category. Its all about the maintenance and how the car has been treated.

Dude, it's his first car. Take it easy with the mods lol. And you should probably check some of your info. A 1JZ swap is not that expensive, and there's no reason it shouldn't be street legal unless one tunes it poorly and has no cats (or lives in Commiefornia). You downtalk an NA-T setup for being hard to tune, but talk up a turbo'd B16 as a good candidate? And everyone wants to drive a gutted tin can Honda as their first car, right?

A car can be in that category if it is treated like a queen. I mean any car will last a while if you take great care of it, most people have problems with their cars because they treat it like S%#^.

I'd say get a 300, if you get a 400 be careful, they're very powerful, dont put it into a tree.

My first 92 SC sucked. Because I rushed into it and got a lemon. My 99 is freaking awesome though SCs can make great first cars as long as you pick up a good one
