Default Missing dashboard item

This, my friend, is the super-duper wham-bam Lexus Alternative Cup Holder. I wish I knew the name of the engineer resposnible for such a cheap and cheesy item on such a fun car to drive.

It was probably missing due to the extremely flimsy plastic construction.

Where did u purchase the cupholder? I saw one at www.autonetperformance.com but they only had one available for the Soarer, and I believe their cupholders are on the left side of the car....plus they cost alot. I think it was around 70 bucks??

NO NO ...on a 92 you have to order the whole trim assembly piece. Comes with the holder ($85) at my dealer. Just got one...The newer years 93 (Ithink maybe 94) and up doesn't work...Trust me, we had a Lexus Mechanic out and he tried...Have to order the whole thing. Unless you want to glue it in...I wouldn't......

So whats the consensus on whether this will work on 92-94 SC's or not?

We have one guy with a 92 who said all he did was buy the $30 cupholder part and "snapped" it in for the install.

Another person says you can't do that and must buy the whole trim assembly w/ the cupholder attached for $85 for 92-94 SCs.

Who's got a 92-94 SC and has EASILY just snapped this sucker in?

What exactly is involved with the install? Is it as easy as just "snapping it in"? Is it tight?

The install is kind of a pain. You have to remove the whole trim piece and pop out the black backing from behind. Removing the trim piece involves six screws: two located beneath the cupholder, and four beneath the gear shift cover.

- The cup holder pops out by gripping the sidewall and pulling out. You'll see the two screws under it instantly.

- To get the shift cover out, you'll have to unscrew two screws located at the base of the shift stick. Pinch the base of the shift stick and force the plastic sleeve downwards. This exposes two screws. Remove the screws and the shift stick slides right off.

- The shift cover is held in by clips too and comes out by wedging your fingers under and pulling it out. The four screws beneath it are pretty obvious from then on. Remove them.

- The trim piece is held in by plastic clips. Wedge your fingers around it and pull the trim piece free. There are wire harnesses attached behind it, but you can leave them on. reach behind and push the black backing piece through. It should pop out. Slide the cup holder unit into the slot until it clicks into place.

- Put everything back together. Job is about five minutes.

You can go to the dealer and see if it works for sure. The shop book and parts catalogue will make mention of it if so. The mechanics at the dealerships know the least about SCx00s so their word isn't always bond. Basically if the black backing pops out, the cup holder should fit fine. Don't hold me to that though

Lightbulb Visual aid on how to install the cup holder

To supplement and give visual aid to lex400sc descriptive how-to steps, you can link to this web site: http://kenji.fureai.or.jp/soarer/30/cupholder
Although it is in Japanese, Confucius say: picture worth thousand quesses!!

Yes, any type of equipment you put in the center console that isn't flush with the trim piece, will get in the way. When you go to push the holder back up, you haveto pinch the arms in yourself, otherwise they'll catch on whatever's in dash and just push against it without avail. People that play with it in my car don't realize that...
