dont know the car has a timing belt. I called the owner of the car and asked him if he has the receipts, does he know when the belt was changed. He told me it had a timing chain, but he does have the receipt and the carfax shows maintenace was done on lexus-car dealerships. The car is a 1993 sc400 with 139000 miles, and he wants 2800.

Thats the listing. The car drove great and the interior was clean, with everything working. Im only worried about the timing belt, since its about 750-900( i already asked around about the cost)

It is extremely easy to check the timing belt
it would take u a 10 mm whatever u call it to remove the bolts - there are 3 pieces of plastic that you remove from the top of the engine, then u are face to face with you devil: the timing belt - check it, see if it is dry, if it is cracked - you could immediately tell if you need to change it
No if you need tochange it, get a timing belt from Autozone for 35 dollars and a water pump for 110 and then tell a local mechanic to put them for you for not much than 400
this is what I did

yes, you could try to negotiate the price down but crap, that's a beautiful car with relatively low miles and you're getting it for a steal. What else do you want?
What does the carfax say? Any accidents?

My point was that whether you are successful at getting a better price or not ... thats a beautiful car at a very low price. Assume you cannot get it at a lower price, do you still want it?
If you want it ... go for it.

great deal imo, if title is clean then its an even better deal, a car that year + mileage would go for 4k+ in CO. like the others said, check belt plz, kthxbye =P. my old sc died because the timing belt broke on my 3day test drive(went ~170-240miles before that happened) dealer fixed it for me and didnt add to the price for it =3. if your even decent with cars and read up enough about how timing belts work you can do it yourself no prob, almost all about MARKINGS! plus its so much easier then a transverse 4banger ><. gl and get some rims if ya get it =D
EDIT: if you can get a better price, go for it, if not, its still a good price for miles on it.

fyi, i havent read them in a LONG while, but believe me, its a walk in the park for somebody thats worked on a honda accord '89 - and an at home mechanic
