The 1988 BMW M5 was only to have approx. ~600 imported to the US and that was advertised but they couldn't sell worldwide. The US got approx. 1296 of them IIRC. Ultimately this happened:
"Due to an extended production run that exceeded BMW's original forecast of production volumes, a class action lawsuit was launched by owners in the United States. The results of this class action was that owners were given a voucher for US$4,000 in 1993."
We think BMW secretly retaliated by not offering the Euro engine in the following generation M3.

Here is a table I lifted from Wikipedia that can be informative . Looks like this info is based on Calendar Year. The annotations in blue are references from which the editors lifted the numbers. Looks like they have lumped the 1991 production with the 1992 that is why the number of production is a lot bigger than sales and technically the Lexus SC model started in 1992. So is the 120 number only for the 1997 calendar year manufactured vehicles ? I still don't know ! Hope one day we will find a more credible source and will find out .

Here is a table I lifted from Wikipedia that can be informative . Looks like this info is based on Calendar Year. The annotations in blue are references from which the editors lifted the numbers. Looks like they have lumped the 1991 production with the 1992 that is why the number of production is a lot bigger than sales and technically the Lexus SC model started in 1992. So is the 120 number only for the 1997 calendar year manufactured vehicles ? I still don't know ! Hope one day we will find a more credible source and will find out .

Man, I still kick myself for not being able to afford that mint Shadow Rose Quartz 97 5spd with 14K miles when it was up for sale. But it sold by the time I had enough so what can ya do. it was a tough decision between buying the SC I had my eye on, and could afford at the time, and saving up more for that one. glad I went with my Black Onyx because I might have missed out on both!

All of this can be found by entering your vin through the Lexus Drivers website. This car indeed has cloth and a sunroof. If you scroll to the second page of the PDF, you'll see the vehicles options.

@gerrb - I sold mine (907 - JUN - 1000374 - pdclark - MN) - it's now in Delaware, being worked on by @Soaring361 .
