Someone locally is selling a 97 5 speed for $7k. Green 150k miles with unpainted kbd front bumper because he said someone backed into him and messed up the front bumper, lights, and hood. Is this a good buy? I'm going to check it out tomorrow and would have offered $6k, but the front end accident makes me wonder if even $6k is too much.
bzublin - that is great info right there . I did recheck JT8CD32Z4V0038335 . You are right , it is an automatic car. I just rechecked it. More likely it was a manual swapped car and advertised as manual..

Now I am more confused. Based on your list there are more than 120 1997 Lexus SC300 5 speed and yet on Lexus brochures they say 120 ? Is the 120 the ones sold only in the US and the rest where sold somewhere ? Would you mind sharing the link from that site were you extracted the info ? Thanks

For example, JT8CD32Z2V0037541 was manufactured in Aug. 1996 but wasn't counted by Lexus as sold until Sep. 1998.

Jeff - you probably are right , the 120 on the brochure is what they sold on that calendar year. After some more digging on the lists , indeed as ThomasGS4 had mentioned , those VINS extracted from the database are indeed 1997 SC300 original 5 speeds . So at this point ,only Lexus know exactly where their 120 number comes from.

Updated the list since I have this in my SC barn now . My buddy Brandon , found this in MN being literally locked up in a garage from 2002-2020 as evidenced by carfax / autocheck in which it was never registered and ran on public roads. He delivered this to me almost 3 months ago. It was a car that was undergoing a 2jzgte / 6speed swap but I decided that it should go back to its original configuration since it was in such pristine condition.
List updated . That beautiful red 1997 5speed (pictures above) now belongs to @MongooseGA , a long time member of this forum. I believe, knowing how meticuluous G.A. is with his vehicles , the car will be in good hands. He said it is not going anywhere for a while. Well , everyone who saw and owned that car always said , I will keep it for a long time and it is not going anywhere , lmaol. It is just a testament of how nice that damn car is in person. I have owned 21 SCs in the past 20 years and that by far is the nicest when it came to its exterior paint , how clean it was all around for a 23 year old car and most of all its almost immaculate condition inside the car.
If I didn't have 17 vehicles , I probably would really have kept this for a long time. I just hate the fact that I don't even put 500 miles a year in most of my vehicles so it will be a pity to just see this locked up in a garage just like the one who owned it from 2002-2020, literally locking it up inside a garage. I love its last VIN 7 digits though .. 1000848 , my other 97 5speed is 1000969 so it would have been lovely to have both for a long time.

Here is a table I lifted from Wikipedia that can be informative . Looks like this info is based on Calendar Year. The annotations in blue are references from which the editors lifted the numbers. Looks like they have lumped the 1991 production with the 1992 that is why the number of production is a lot bigger than sales and technically the Lexus SC model started in 1992. So is the 120 number only for the 1997 calendar year manufactured vehicles ? I still don't know ! Hope one day we will find a more credible source and will find out .
