So you want to bet me about this? Do you? KaZaa does use spyware, what do you think Bonzai buddy is? Currently they dumped the spyware for something even worse. It's a distributed computing client that some comany will turn on soon to use our computers to calcuate anything they want. Also, there are lots of script kitties on KaZaa. If you watch your ports like I do, you will see that after you turn KaZaa on and do a search, automatically some random IP address will either port-scan you or try to establish a connection on a certain port. Most commonly it's port 21,23, and 80. Here is a log:

Part of their press release said that the embedded program will never be used without our expressed permission. It is a tool they planted in for distribution and positioning purposes so that when the marketing program goes online, they can buy your computing resources for processing power in exchange for some sort of reward or compensation. I don't mind them offering this or even spying on my computer, considering all the FREE music that I'm getting in return at much higher transfer speeds than Morpheus, WinMX or miRC. Anyway, if there is some big conspiracy to enslave our CPUs, it'll be debunked, squashed, and Kazaa will be finished the very day it switches online. I never noticed that port activity though, thanks for pointing it out

the wierd thing about kazaa is how it signs me on and downloads stuff for me without asking... so i had a computer tech guy come check my comp. out and he found a file titled toogslog.doc and it had all the times i went on kazaa, what i downloaded, and all of my passwords for other sites i am subscribed to... anyone hear of something like this?

Well I just spent the last two nights archieving and reformatting my hard drives because Windows was permanently fixed in MS-DOS mode, which made everything unbelieveably slow. Right now I'm reinstalling a BUNCH of software so if others can confirm the presence of this "Kazaa log file" before I get to installing it, that'd be great. Before then, I think I'll stick to Audio Galaxy while my registry is still unscathed.

The log was located in the program files kazaa folder under the folder db.

Well I dug up all four .dbb files and they only show my previously searched items, which is normal because Kazaa does retain text entered into your search field for convenience. Morpheus and all web browsers do the same thing. I scanned all four files for my various account names and passwords and it yielded no results in all files. There seems to be no immediate threat, but I'll let this thread pan out a bit more before I decide to download the program again.

No, it wasnt a .dbs file, it was located under the file folder db...

it might have only been in older versions because i got a real firewall and dled kazaa and its no longer there; but for one thing, it def. is spywear.
