To 1jz or 2jz that is the question ?
Well im in a bit of a dilema , i first bought the car ( sc300 1994 ) with the intentions of doing a 2jzgte swap , but i went to a budies house who owns a shop and he has an sc300 with a 1jzgte making 600+rwhp on 104octane. HE is telling me that its a cheaper route for the same amount of outcome and you get a 5speed so you save some cash .
Now first my goal was to build a good 600+rwhp car without going into the block or head . I wanted to go stick also r154 will do . I wanted to go single and do all the requirements to suport the mods .
now im a bit confused.....
1jzgte
the good:
cheaper
good potential for my goal
comes with a 5speed ( if i get a soarer)
bad :
parts are hard to find
i dont know how much more i can go past the 700hp mark ? some help here
2jzgte
the good :
reliable engine 900+ hp ( proven )
lots of parts and some combinations out ther to push well over 700
the bad :
more expensive
i have to find a r154 and swap it in .
for those who have gone 1jzgte if you could do it again would you have gone 2jz ?
and for those who are 2jzgte was it worth it or could you have saved some cash and gone 1jz with equal outcome ?
please not na-t coments i dont care much for na-t build .

if you are looking for a drag car, 2j has been more successful, but in terms of drifting 1j tends to do better. they build there power in slightly different rpm ranges, but that can all be changed with mods and tuning. I say do the 1 j, as i am about to be starting mine, and i can get the car running with about 300 wheel for about $3000. Its gonna cost you that much just to buy the 2jzgte and trans, no supporting mods. Good luck either way you choose.

i did search and that was my conclusion , parts for a 1jz are harder to find . I was refering more to parts such as things that bolt up to the head , maybe a valve or lifter . maybe some oem bolts and gaskets . im not saying you CANT get them , im just saying its a lil more dificult to find them NEW . I dont plan on buying used stuff to slap on my motor .

1jz with a soarer r154 isnt cheap.
getting a 2jz over a 1jz engine wise is only like 500-1000 more.
why not just buy the 2jz and the 5 spd seperate?
your gonna have to drop the engine and tranny into the car anyways, so your point of "swapping in" an r154 doesnt make sense. it takes all of a few hours and a couple beers to bolt on the tranny outside of the car before you swap everything in.
so yeah if you want 600 hp on a 1jz and be at its limit, by all means go for it.
or you can have a 2jz thats will be less stressed and have room for more power for a little extra $$

I have a 1JZGTE T78 in my sunday driver at the moment and I couldnt be happier with it.
I would suggest the 1JZ if you are daily driving the car with less than 600hp.
If you want the extra power then prepare to spend at least a few extra thousand making the 2JZGTE a perfect swap.
Easiest way for you is to buy a Soarer front clip and swap everything. Its pretty basic and will leave you with almost all needed parts.
