Someone attempting to out think a simple situation? More than enough. Could be about installing or whatever.

What's happening here is communication breakdown. You see it when Engineer/Inventor/Math/Sensory types try to communicate with Artistic/Business/Moron/Feeley types. It's the whole classic vs. romantic type deal. And it's compounded by talking by typing. A voice can do wonders.

What you need to do is essentially 'paint' them a picture and hold their hand through the re-installation.

You need to explain that the odo/temp/time and dimmer is on a SEPERATE panel and show with pictures what the SEPARATE panel that has the odo/temp/time and dimmer switch looks like and where it goes and which plugs go in which sockets.

You need to explain the the cluster will not fit in the proper location unless they lower the steering wheel first by using the tilt lever on the left hand side of the steering column.

And while all of that sounds like a major PITA... It will actually save time in and frustration in the long run.

OLT, It's obvious you lack patience in dealing with idiots that have lost their temper, but it's a part of business life. Different personality types are a trip to explore and learn about, it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

The pictures are funny as hell though!

See the below in the OP, Please read the entire first post. Everything you just said is there.

So I respond:

Quote:
Reach around the side of your steering colum and hit that "tilt" lever to tilt the steering colum down.

THEN plug the cluster in, and set it in it's proper place in the dash and reach over and grab the trim piece off the floor that you took off the front of the cluster 's bottom when you started removing it and plug it in as well so you have dimmer functions.

THEN make sure the dimmer is turned all the way up and turn the key so the cluster comes on. IF any of your very very old backlight is not firing, you can shake the filament up by slapping the dash above the cluster a few times to jar the old filament in the bulbs. it usually fires them back up. Otherwise buy eight #24 bulbs from an auto pats store and replace them.
