My 97 paint did not crack. I used a heat gun and took my time, no cracks.
I think it depends on several factors.
Age and condition of paint
Method of rolling (use the eastwood roller)
Factory paint or has it been repainted
Get it really hot before and during rolling
Maybe a little luck.
If you got cracks you need to seal it. Agreed!

I totally agree. Take your time and do it right. I used a angle grinder on the inside of my wheel wells, to make it smooth as possible. After that, I used stop rust paint, with 3 coats, so far so good. I did chip one small piece on one side of the car, before I used a angle grinder. Listen learned. Trial and error. Be safe when using this, sparks fly everywhere!

I also had the 3 step pearl paint on mine. I cant tell you that
1) They went too fast
2) They didn't heat the metal/paint
3) Rolled the lip way to far.
4) Didn't know what they we're doing.
It doesn't have to be rolled flush with the back side of the fender, it just has to be pushed up far enough for the Tire to clear. Also, the entire lip around the wheel well doesn't need to be rolled, only the area that's making contact + about an inch.
That's why it cracked.
**edit** Just re-read my post. Should have read.
"That's why you had to repaint"
