Cash for Clunkers (HURRY)

Its mostly due to the fact average car weight has increased by 40% since the 1980s. Case in point, just look at our SC's. Back when they came out, they were pretty heavy at 3500-3600 lbs, but today's standard, that's nothing. Most sports and luxury cars weigh more. Even compact cars like the Lexus IS or the BMW 3-series weigh almost as much, and once econobox cars like the Camry are tipping the scales well beyond the 3000 lbs mark. Engine advancements alone can't keep up with the pork. It's pretty sad to think that my old V8 averages the same MPG as my friend's Audi A6, even though his car has much smaller displacement, 2 less cylinders, and many other innovations like valve timing and direct injection.

this program....would put most of the smaller used car shops out of business.
these car's they are crushing is what your smaller dealer's normally buy at a car auction.
not to mention it is also hurting the junk yard dealer who sells used parts.
but it is helping the scrap yard dealer.....and it is helping the bigger dealers.
It is also a short term fix.. new cars cost to much

Do some more research on the cash for clunker program. the only requirement that the dealership has to do with the car is to seize the engine, after that they can do what ever they want with them. That will include selling them to junk yards or crushing them.

Although the CFC program could have been better planned out. It did stimulate the auto industry, and it got alot of POS cars off the road. I think the positives outweigh the negatives.
I just have beef that they shoulda warned automakers in advance to ramp up production possibly, and hired more people to process the paperwork.
Nobody thought the program would be so successful. It was a much needed surprise to the economy.
Overall, no matter what you think about the program, it worked very well.
I wonder how many CFC will end up in Mexico...
I wanted to CFC our Voyager minivan, but we hadn't owned it for a year. I traded it instead, and they said it will end up in Mexico.(see here the CFC program got me interested, but although my clnker didnt qualify we still bought a car!)
To whoever wasnt happy with your 5spd salvaged title SC. Why don't you sell it instead of complaining about it...noone wants to hear your whining.

Fck Obama and his artifical attempt to fund the bailout of Unions and auto manufacturers and using our tax dollars to try to promote us driving cars we don't like.
Cash for Clunkers is a monumental FAIL. It's already in the news the dealers are starting to sink again.
