Default Toyomoto getting more expensive yet...

They just quoted me $10500 for a Stage 2 for a 97 SC300. Um...maybe for $7000...

That was the Stage 2 kit only, not installed for the 97 SC300. No tax.

Doesn't that also include the Haltech?

The 97 motor isn't nearly as easy to turbo as the 95 and before.

Can't you simply swap the $900 stock ECU with the earlier 95s? I believe it should work.

What is the deal with 97 SC300??

I have a 97 and getting a simple air intake is different. It seems that a bunch of stuff is different even though it is suppose to be the same engine.

So I guess it went something like this
92-96 same engine and basic stuff
97 all different but looks the same
98-00 same engine and basic stuff

97 has VVTi, correct? That's where the $$ comes into play. You have to use the Haltech if you have a car with VVTi. Anything newer than 95 becomes a pain to turbo due to OBD2.

isn't it after 96?

but yeah, 97 is a ODBII car AND has VVTI; no simple ECU switcheroo

$10k involves a standalone engine management system; Lance uses the Haltech; thats why IS300 installs are so expensive; for the same reason

Ok, now how much will a Stage 2 kit cost for the Non VVTi engines(OBD1)?

VVT-I started in the 98' model year for U.S. spec Lexus cars. I say "98' model year" because my GS400 says November 97' on it (this is probably when it was manufactured). BTW Mark II Aristo's(GS) started in 97' in Japan and reached the U.S. in 98'.

Hey TRDSupra,

They said $8500 without installation or tax.

There is a new product coming out soon for IS300s and SC300s which is supposed to be a simply bolt on product (a bit skeptical of that but kind of hoping on it) for about $6500 for Stage 1 at 320RWHP. It will work on new IS300s and VVTI SC300s as well. Can't wait to see Stage 2. The Stage 1 is already getting 13.1 1/4 mile traps on what looked like a bad start. A TC wouldn't have hurt it either. Now the $6500 does seem expensive but if it a real easy kit to install that will save $1500 right there. If Stage looks good I am thinking of getting a 2000 SC300.

What do you mean by bolt on product? Is it a turbo or no? I dont see how they can make it a bolt on without it being a supercharger, but that sounds hella cool
