It is personal preference. However, there is no arguing with the numbers and the numbers show that higher Kelvin = Less actual useable light output. You will also most likely draw more "unwanted" attention.

I've had 8000k before and I've got two tickets for being too blue. I also had trouble seeing in the rain because wet road absorbed blue light.

Then, I got 6000k and was happy untill I parked next to my friend's TL with 4300k. (it's given considering TL has better projectors). Still, there were much more visible light on the road.

Now I have 4300k with proper projectors retrofitted and my SC produces great output without attracting cops.

The purple or whatever color produced on "high end" cars are result of prism effect from projector cutoff flickering. In theory, this color flickering can be achieved with just about any color temp. In fact, most if not all, high end cars are equipped with 4300k temp bulbs because 4300k out performs other color temp.

Also, HID planet is a good read if anyone wants to be educated on the light output and why 10k and 20k are rice.

I know numbers don't lie and all that stuff, but I've been in someone elses car with my car following behind and my lights are stupid bright and they are 20k. I'd say almost 2x brighter than my high beams that are still stock. I'm not arguing with anyone about whose lights are brighter, I'm just saying mine are super bright. I would never buy them again because they do attract alot of the wrong attention. I've gotten a ticket or two because of them. I will be going to 12k real soon!! High end bmw's have a purple hue, Lambos have a purple hue, ferarri has a purple hue. If a purple hue or a blue hue light comes on such high end cars and trucks why is it ricer? I think white light is boring it looks stock. If you have trouble seeing at nite get 4300k or 6k if you wanna stand out a little bit go 10k or higher. This is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to offend or **** anyone off so keep that in mind as you read my post.
Comments like this make my head hurt.

DDM 55w 5000k = 50W ballasts with 35W bulbs = Overdriving 35W bulbs = Premature bulb/ballast failure & Potential damage to your headlights from excess heat.

4300k is best. It looks factory like, 6000k and more looks blue.

It's very funny how many people here mentioned that new cars have blue lights. Totally false. All new luxury cars have 4300k lights. That purple/blue hue is because of lens cutoff line. When you look straight at lenses you will see perfect white light, when you will look at them from an angle where you see the cutoff line, that's where you will see the purple hue. Another thought, do we have lights to see at night or to look cool? Isn't it the brighter the better, and not the bluer the better? Seriously.

Don't know maybe depends on the make of the kit. Usually it's white on videos but when you install it in real life it's bluish. 4300k has better light output and looks better, esp with projectors
