Default To Trade, Or Not To Trade, That Is The Question

My friend wants to trade me their 1994 auto Supra that has 121k for my 98 SC400.

The Bad:

The drivers side window doesnt work- but i have a new regulator its just not installed, The 2nd turbo is gone.. will need to be replaced, the water pump will need to be replaced soon, Im sure the serpintine belt could use a change but its not dire, and the heat shield over the cat will need to be removed because it rattles (but the cat is fine and works fine).

The good:
I also have a test pipe if you want to take the cat off which I will give you with the car.

Good news: BRAND NEW TIRES Toyot T1Rs (only about 150-200 miles on them), Brand new timing belt and titan cam gears... Navi works wonderful!

They're really just looking for a reliable dd and my car is bone stock pretty much. Any opinions?

It almost seems too good to be true to be getting my dream car but I've known this person for years and they can't really afford the Supra so any comments are appreciated

The only bad thing is is that I've come to love the Lexus community. I've never met such classy people and being a previous Supra owner, I know how arrogant they are which drives me crazy. Only thing is, is that if I had the Supra, I'd still want to be part of the Lexus community cuz it's way better and more helpful than most of the Supra communities.

Isn' that Ren from the supra forums? If so, shes pretty damn stupid to trade for a fairly stock sc400 with those kinds of mods in the supra. I say you take advantage of this and jump on it.

Replacing the stock twins isn't that bad, just try to find a loooong *** spanner wrench and some PB blaster to take the bolts off the manifold. Took me a few hours on mine when my 2nd turbo decided to crap out

edit:this car has low compression on 4 and 6. Good luck fixing that, its expensive as hell and a pain in the ***. Make sure you have your fiances ready to rebuild that motor first before jumping on it.

Thank you for pointing that out...it's low on cylinder 4. I'm glad I made this thread before making the leap. I'll take it to my mechanic first obviously, but now I know specifically to have him do a leakdown test because my car runs is flawless mechanically wise...for now anyway *knocks on wood*

I'm so glad I made this thread now, see why I love the Lexus community so much

You said you had drilled slotted rotors on your SC? Does doing that alone upgrade your stopping power to some degree? Are they the same size as stock?

Even with the low compression on cylinder 4?

And Marcus, to answer your question, I have no idea honestly. The brakes were already done when I bought the car, but it stops on a dime!

And turbodremz, you see it's low compression on cylinder 4, but if you are still serious about that, let me know and I'll make the trade with them, and then trade with you and let you keep your 5k to use towards fixing cylinder 4 if you're interested!

Let me know
