Getting power out of a GE without boost is the biggest waste of money ever.

I'd have to agree. All the mods he added to that car would work quite well with a turbo setup.

I wonder how much he spent to get 60 more hp out of it lol

edit: alot
Engine:
- Toda ø 87 mm forged pistons
- JUN camshafts, 272º duration, 10.8 mm lift
- JUN titanium valve retainers
- JUN valve springs
- Tomei valve lifters
- Toyota 2JZ-GE cylinder head
- Fully balanced bottom end
- Ported and polished head
- Bored and honed 2JZ engine block
- HKS slide cam pulleys
- TRD timing belt
- YSR original 6-throttle intake conversion
- YSR custom intake plenum
- YSR custom airbox
- Apex Power intake
- YSR custom airbox piping
- YSR original exhaust manifold
- HKS front pipe
- Apex Hybrid Megaphone Evolution exhaust system
- YSR oil catch tank
- YSR power steering tank
- Trust oil cooler kit
- Perma Cool power steering cooler
- TRD oil filler cap
- TRD radiator cap
- Splitfire Twincore ignition cables
- TRD iridium spark plugs (Denso)
- Splitfire grounding kit
- I’MEC carbon look head covers
- Optima Yellow-top battery
- Trust e-Manage ECU

And I spent 90 bucks for a downpipe for my MKIV to get 60hp out of a GTE lol

There was another 300+ HP supra and it looked cool because it had ITB's. They could have just added NOS, and there are numerous 6 cylinder engines pushing 300hp

yea but with the setup he has now when ever he gets bored all he needs to do is slap on a turbo and some injectors and he will easily be up in the 500's

That is pretty impressive that someone actually did a built n/a. Considering that everyone just boosts. And after reading the article you could tell there plan was to be different not just shoot for big horse power. And gaining 100hp on a n/a isnt cheap as seen by the parts list. And yea today there are alot of cars pushing 300+ on 6 cylinders like the 350z. 370z, new camaro..ect but they have 11+ years of development compared to the 2jzge.

This is why I still keep wondering why people even bother with the worst engine to do an NA build. It's been proven over and over that GEs are worthless naturally aspirated with pathetic power gains. This is why everyone "just boosts".

I hope that front facing plenum was just a teaser

This car is my favorite JZA80 I've seen to date. Tasteful exterior modifications, and a completely unique engine setup. Streetable, responsive power.

Getting power out of a GE without boost is the biggest waste of money ever.
I completely disagree. There's a reason they didn't throw a single on there like everyone else. I don't think YSR built this for economical power; and its not like they were on a budget.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
my exact thought.. it was to be different and well na isnt really what i want with mine, but just parts list is enough.

my first thought when i saw it was were can i get these parts!!!! not that i want to do na but the ....

I’MEC carbon look head covers
and especially the gold trd oil cap ....... i want one but cant find one, they stop making them
the trd wheels!

i mean the outside of the car looks great no ccw/volk wheels rod millen wing, not that i think that looks bad its just not what i always see.

a buddy of mine has a built na type-r with 280whp and it isnt exactly the fastest car on the straights, but on the track it keeps up the my others friends heavely built evo.

^^ im not talking about NA builds in other cars, just specifically the GE in terms of performance. There's not much of a power gain on the build, so I don't see it as a unique unless you see it a tuner shop throwing money around to showcase some products.

There's a good reason why NA supra builds (or GEs in general) are such a small percentage of the community since its been tried and tested to be the single worst pathway to build power.

Looking by the mods he has, money isn't an issue for him. The article is pointing at the main idea of being "different". Hell, he probaly has 5 TT Supras over there making 800 hp easily. Its just about being different, don't need to go with the flow and be a turbo supra like everyone else. Just my 2cents. Props for a clean set up though.

I am gonna have to agree with 2turbo1sup on this because yes its kool that its a different kinda build BUT whats the point ? with that parts list for only what 90hp its not worth the idea of being different. It is a clean set up but true to the fact that it is pointless any GE with head studs and a single turbo non tuned for under 2k will make more power. So if u have the loot to be different then go right on ahead
