Exhaust surprise
Even with my Magnaflow resonators (straight through) my exhaust was very loud unless I choked it down with the silencers that came with my mufflers. I had those removed today in favor of the model 14829 muffler from Magnaflow here http://www.magnaflow.com/03mirrorstreet.htm
The exhaust is straight through, but they build a reflector ring into the chamber that makes the exhaust only a whit above stock sound level. However, it flows much better and the sound it puts out is pure low-frequency bass sound.
This is a great way to get around the stock resonators, for all you out there who want a high flow system but don't want it loud.

How much were they, and how do you think it would affect the SC3? I am interested in keeping the "stock" aka sleeper sound. Plus I want to keep the Lexus silence and mystique.

That's a pretty nice looking exhaust...
I too had a surprise today...I drove a '97 SC300 with the GReddy MX cat-back exhaust and I must say, it was nice. Very quite but when you got on it, it make a nice low growl...I'm interested to see what it sounds like on a SC400...

frankly, my exhaust needs a resonator; it resonates bad below 3k rpms... but after that; it quiets down and sounds friggin exotic.. smooth and mean; I've had absolutely nothing BUT compliments on it; everyone loves the way it sounds... the 2jz is one of the best sounding motors IMO... its right up there with the RB20, RB26, and various flat and V-12 motors of Italian breed
I've got a 3" single pressbent cat-back; had a muffler shop build the pipe for me; the guy does really good work with minimal bends... I had a 3" dynomax ultraflow knockoff muffler sitting around with a spare tip that I was going to use on my Talon but never did... points out and up at a slight angle... I love it... needs a bigger tip though
all in all cost me about $140. versus $700-$800 for a retail kit

Have you read this post? Hoops has put the same muffler as you did. Do you have any extra comments about his install, meaning now that we have 2 sc400 with this muffler setup 'Is the exhaust sound the same for both cars'?

Excellent look especially for the cost. But since we're speaking about mufflers and such, the tip of one of mine is bent up, it's just 1 of the 4. It's bent and I really can't get it put back right, hell I can't even budge it to be honest. Anyone have like good condition oem tips to sell? or would it be better to just take it somewhere to get it done, because if you can bend it can be fixed but the chrome on the car was never taken care of very well so I wouldn't mind completely new ones that have been cared for. Plus is it hard/possible just to change the tips? (I have no idea on any of this)
